Surprising sight at Eshott airfield

Out with a mate in the glorious weather we came across a new Food Van at Bockenfield lay-by on the A1 southbound about 20 miles north of Newcastle. Now this was something special with all food cooked fresh and a menu that could be taken away and food ordered before your arrival to save waiting - never seen the like before. Very nice lady running the place and extremely reasonable prices - tea 50p anyone! Well, after ordering two bacon and egg sandwich - which were well above the average roadside fayre and came in a white paper bag with a serviette we put the Zed's cup holders to use and had our breakfast at the end of Eshott airfield's runway.

We were very surprised to see this Eindecker WW1 replica take to the air and complete a circuit - amazing what we get to see when we're out and about. . .

Well worth a visit if you're passing - MerryMac vfm - even has it's own facebook page

End of the runway at Eshott - that's the senior instructor on the off-road motorcycle on the runway

Here comes the Eindecker replica having completed a circuit - pilot looked as if he was having fun and made an excellent landing

Yep amazing what you come across - always seems to be something new to see - quite a surprise!

Not what you expect to see buzzing a NE airfield! What a great little aircraft, wish I had the time and money to turn my hand to one of these http://www.lightaircraftassociation.co.uk/2010/Magazine/2010/March/Fokker_article.pdf

Well had a read through that article and I would say that it is the same kit that we saw flying. Although it looked superb and did indeed take off and land 'on a sixpenth' I would not like to have been piloting it ( I did qualify on microlights some years ago but it looked very underpowered to me - and slow!)

Great article to read through though and I've sent it on to my friend who was with me - many thanks Ewazix!

That sounds like a good old fashioned day out.

Scrumptious bacon and egg sanwiches, tea and sat at the airfield watching the Eindecker and then pootle home in a lovely sports car!!
