Surprised with falling E89 used values

Hadn't looked at the prices for a while but boy have they dropped. The first link at that price for a 351s, albeit high mileage seems a steal.

You do realise that it's a 35i sDrive and not a 35is sDrive? And the price, well that ones been dropping as it's been around a little while. Not sure what the issue is with it. I'm sure someone looked at it on here

For sure I know the differences. BMW are subtle with their badge differentiation. Think how many have some sort of 'M' in the title.

I was just commenting on the relative small price step and not the pros and cons of that exact car.

It's only a little letter but the "s" make so much difference when you're as sad as me! The over boost on the on the 35is gives about 45 extra bhp which could be had with a re map but not the same as having that little letter on it. I think the "s" stands for"special" and it certainly sounds it!

Sounds a bit like the Carrera / Carrera S then ? Yes you would prefer the S but majority would be happy with the "lesser" model

Just the man to answer.........

Its your fault im now looking at E89's........The 35is seems thin on the ground especially in Melbourne red or Valencia..

Apparently there's a shortage of letter S's at BMW!

I was more commenting on the fact you have put 351s which looks very much like 35is, there should be no 's' and a i.

What would you say is the difference at current values between the 2 3,5s ? If its more than 10/15% then youd have to be pretty picky to go for the more expensive version as it appears to offers little extra other than a few BHP & some trinkets
A decent remap should bring the figures closer together ?

The cheapest 35is on auto trader is also the cheapest one on BMW Approved used at 24,500 for a 2010 on a 10 plate with over 30k on the clock. But again less of these and to compare like for like you'd also need to compare a 35i auto with a 35is

As for why you would go for it, well its auto as standard if your after an auto which usually commands a premium, yes its got a bit more power but it also comes with the adaptive suspension and a different exhaust. Like already pointed out a lot of people like some toys and the 35is's always seem to have been well spec'd so again you would need to compare like with like

I got a 23sdrive back around September 2013. It had a fair bit of extras in it and I paid around 15k for it. Jaguar Main dealer with a years warranty. So not to shocked with the prices - lots of metal out there and a lot of choice and as newer stock comes in the prices are dropping. However I am finding that there seems to be an interest in the sixes that the newer 4 cylinder ones don't get - people want a six.

Getting all the toys aswell seems to make a difference - look at some of the ones out there and they are leggy and poverty spec so need to be cheap to get the interest.

They're now at £12k (28i) to £15k (35is) off list price new from BMW , so hardly surprising they are dropping

Can I just ask where you are getting these figures from as they are not advertised by bmw as this is significantly more than others have been getting.
That looks to be total discount rather than support. £12k was about what I could get of a heavily loaded 28i & my 35iS order, which is mid-spec, was extended leather away from the £15k marker.

My local dealer quoted me, I was looking for them to match the online quote from Coast to Coast and Autoebid. There are even bigger discounts I think, but I'm not committed just yet so didn't push it.

The smaller engined E89's were a total disappointment to me when I drove them. I just didn't feel involved like I do driving my E86. I guess they got a bit bloaty and needed more oomph..

Good to hear your managing to get an ever bigger discount. At this rate I might chop mines in for a new one by the end of the year without really loosing anything given current prices. I do wonder if they are also quoting the 'dealer & bmw contribution' which can be given when taking bmw finance. But hey go for whatever they can give you. It won't last forever, especially now the economy has taken a sharp upwards turn.

I got mine without taking any finance Angie.

Although recently there are some numbers being thrown around that don't seem to have substance.

People like https://broadspeed.com/new_cars/BMW/Z4/ are usually close to the cutting edge.

Not sure why its surprising prices are falling, the oldest cars are 6 years old now and don't think I could step back from an F Series to an E Series model unless the E89 is replaced which it needs to be as its getting left behind in the model range. I'm also not sure prices are down due to saturation of the market The large contributions that were knocking about when I bought mine in 2012 was simply down to stock not shifting and poor sales. Having said that I was pleasantly surprised when I traded the Zed in for the M135i at 2 years and received 18K for it. It was 23K new after the 8K dealer and BMW contribution.

Tim.

They feel very nice inside as well

I have yet to drive one, but like you say they are becoming very tempting

In my humble opinion if we started talking about falling Z4M prices the market would get hit. Look at 2008 and all the media coverage of the crash. It didn't help and just altered people's perception and was based on nothing tangible.

Just my opinion. We could start a conversation that Prince Charles had a sex change and if enough people talked about it, people would start believing it!!!!
