Surprised with falling E89 used values

Ive spent so much time watching E85/E86 & M values i hadn't paid too much attention to E89s as my mindset was they were upwards of £17.5k for 3.0/3.5s & if i was shelling out that much then it would be on a 997 911
However last weekend at the Lancs/Yorks breaky meet i had my ears turned with the 3.5s leaving the meet
which got me looking this week & more than a bit surprised to find some decent examples around £13k :o Not far before they mix prices with their predecessors ? In fact some examples of the E89 with smaller engine already are at the same money as E86 Coupes
Similar situation has already happened with Mk2 & Mk1 TTs

Amongst many decent looking E89s these are looking terrific value id say http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201411299320600/sort/default/postcode/bb120hr/onesearchad/used%2Cnearlynew%2Cnew/page/1/price-from/12000/radius/1501/model/z4/engine-size-cars/3l_to_3-9l/usedcars/make/bmw/maximum-age/up_to_6_years_old?logcode=p

I can't make my mind up about the e89...

same thing is happening with e46 and e90 m3s. my list was either a z4m coupe or an e46 m3 coupe (circumstances may dictate 4 seats) however i'm seeing some nice e90 m3s. I think the prices converge once all the shite has left the market in terms of the older variant.

ummed and ahhhed over a cayman gts but the thought of slowing down work is much more attractive atm.

I noticed the E89 prices nosediving last year.....I was actually going to buy a White 2.8 with coral leather, think it was a 60 plate for cheap money from a dealer....

I dont know what put me off in the end, probably knowing they still had money to shed..

I wouldnt mind a 3.5is though.....The one at the meet was awesome...

I am keeping a close eye on the prices at the moment as I am considering moving mine on in September, possible for another 3.5is

Just my view Mr Wilks but I think there's a fair bit of tech snobbery with the e89, the black one has decent kit but high miles and the other two are a bit low spec, eg; no I-drive which I think has a bearing on these cars. I've ordered mine with most options boxes ticked for this very reason, I don't intend to sell but you never know and I think it'll be worth quite a bit more fully loaded. As you say though you can pick a very nice 1 up now for e85 money if you don't need all the kit.

Just make sure if you buy an early one, you buy M sport front and rear bumpers, always less than £150 each plus painting and fitting

I've noticed the prices tumbling too - recently at a dealer near me I saw an E89 2.3i on a 09 plate with lowish miles selling for less than an 08 E86 Si coupe with more miles?

Supply and demand in the end determines prices, but it did raise an eyebrow.

It seemed to be triggered by big tactical support on the Z4 in general. When you're lopping 9k off the top of a new 35iS & 5k off the top of a new 28i then used prices are going to suffer.

Im wondering if lease deals have some part to play ?
The manufacturers shift so many new motors this way that they wouldn't ordinarily sell , in a way it produces a surplus of vehicles as the majority of leasers don't keep the cars they return to lease new again ?
It wouldn't have been prevalent with E85s & E86s :?
Some of the 2.3s do look crazy value  i would expect to drive this away for £11500 :o http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201502201106489/sort/default/radius/1501/maximum-age/up_to_6_years_old/postcode/bb120hr/page/1/model/z4/make/bmw/onesearchad/used%2Cnearlynew%2Cnew/usedcars?logcode=p

They're now at £12k (28i) to £15k (35is) off list price new from BMW , so hardly surprising they are dropping

Hadn't looked at the prices for a while but boy have they dropped. The first link at that price for a 351s, albeit high mileage seems a steal.

Still like my old Zed, but at c£6k to trade it becomes very doable.

My guess is that there is an end of lease and different type of owners thing happening here, Vs the E85 that never really was a corporate car and more of a specialist, enthusiast and 2nd car.

Seems sensible figures. Brand new 35is fully loaded - 40k. 50% over 3 years = £20k.

So after 5 years if it's worth £15 that's not all that crazy. Therefore 2.0s / 2.3s / etc would be much lower.

Funnily enough the price of a used 35is hasn't really fallen at all over the last year but then that's possibly more to do with the lower numbers of these.

The 18 and 20 were heavily pushed on cheap finance and still are to be honest. I get a email from a local dealer every other month offering basic spec 18s and 20s from £270 a month to drive away that day if you want. They've saturated the market in them which will only cause a crash in prices as these are handed back after 3 and 4 years.
On the other hand you have people who have paid full whack and will be hit by this but then you also get the other side who got a decent whack of discount but still view their car as the original list price value and complain when they are offered what seems low in comparison to list but probably more than fair considering the discount they got.

.

Same dilemma here , no desire to see the back of my V6 TT but for a £6k/£7k input of cash its mighty tempting for what you can get  need to try one or 2 of the E89s out as i havent even sat in one :?

Can I just ask where you are getting these figures from as they are not advertised by bmw as this is significantly more than others have been getting.

You do realise that it's a 35i sDrive and not a 35is sDrive? And the price, well that ones been dropping as it's been around a little while. Not sure what the issue is with it. I'm sure someone looked at it on here

Prices are certainly dropping as much as I love my current Z I could be tempted for an E89 towards the end of the year. Some fantastic looking cars about at good prices.

What would you say is the difference at current values between the 2 3,5s ? If its more than 10/15% then youd have to be pretty picky to go for the more expensive version as it appears to offers little extra other than a few BHP & some trinkets
A decent remap should bring the figures closer together ?
