Surprise !

Nice write up Bing. Give it a couple of weeks and add your thoughts. I was amazed at the difference from #69. Having said I'd got the hang of it, I had a "marsupial moment" on Sunday. It does like to remind you that you're only alive because for now it's decided not to chew you up and spit you out :)

Did the minor enhancement I gave you on the last meet work OK?

Ooooo - forgot about that. Steve still has it, best remind him to bring it next weekend

I always like to push my luck with cars...but I agree my M always let me know who was the boss!

Well chuffed for you Bing and pleased it has been worth the wait for you. :D :driving:

Woke the neighbours up early again this morning... 140+ mile trip round the M25 to Hemel Hempstead and back, cruising at no more than 85mph where possible, averaged about 57mph, 28.1mpg by the computer. Not bad for 3.2 litres of barely restrained insanity

The Dartford Tunnel and the other two underpasses round the north stretch were quite entertaining too

Sometimes I wish I had a job where I need to travel, just so I could drive the M3 other than just at weekends. Sometimes I resort to working out of our Croydon data centre just so I can drive there.

At this rate you will exceed your PVR pre-purchase mileage contract in about 2 weeks [emoji6]

Excessive mileage is charged at 50p a mile. I have access to Bing's bank account so it will just be lifted by DD by tomorrow

So Bing, had any Red Mist moments yet that needed the abuse of the loud pedal?

Nope, being very well behaved. Probably at least 50% related to not knowing exactly what will happen :P

Also, the loud pedal doesn't need abused - if anything it needs restrained !

Have you pressed the mad button again yet?

Once. On Sunday in the wet. Scared me, haven't thought about it since. It's all about feel though, so I'll have a better play in the dry sometime once I'm totally comfortable with the gearbox. Changing gear still requires specific concentration low down so added brutality is something I can live without right now.

Have to say though, I barely needed to change out of 6th on the motorway today which was ace

Take it easy, you know what they're capable of and it's a smile generator with or without the sport button.

I've been experimenting after the recent CDV and kangarooing threads. I think the drive by wire throttle and the occasional hesitation issues are linked.

I pulled away in first, floored it from a very slow roll and it kangaroo'd same as if the car had hesitated. Replicated it in second. Clutch fully engaged, slow rolling speed, floor it, cough and kangaroo moment. Run the throttle reset process and it is infinitely improved.

I'm wondering if some of the friendly disagreement on CDV is a combination of things.

Very interesting indeed. If it's linked you may just have found the ultimate double-hit solution Stu.

Throttle reset is ignition position 1 for 10 secs, off for 10 secs, on for 10 secs and then start the engine right ?

I'll give that a go. PVR's extended warm-up procedures - which I am broadly sticking to Paul  - may have had an impact. Plus the O2 sensor replacement. Worth a shot

Cough ... :x

I can keep it below 2,000 until I get to the motorway, by which time the engine's about 75 degrees. But to even be a part of traffic (as opposed to freight - therefore at risk of stone chips...) I need 2,500... And I don't have time to drive round Maidstone for 20mins before going to work. Don't worry mate, you know how much this car means to me

Oh, and I'm fitting the fang guards tonight

First mod, exciting :D

Sorry - did a srhutch there with having the mod in the cupboard for over a year ....
