Supplying own oil - 2003 3.0

I read somewhere on here some very sage advice from someone that provided their own oil for a service and saved some money.

What oil is it exactly that is needed and where is the best place to get it?

I will be doing this, Castrol Edge 0w-30 LL01 spec. Not cheap by any means at ~£44 for 4 litres. You will need two cans and will have some left for topping up (think the M54B30 has a 6.5 litre capacity).

Halfords sell it in abundance :)
