Suplex Coils fitted today

Just had a new set of Suplex coils fitted today.
The rear coils were in bad shape and so I decided to do all four corners while I was at it.
I’ve only driven about ten miles but the difference is incredible. I can fully recommend these springs as an alternative to the OEM ones. At the moment they are riding maybe one inch higher than the previous ones but the handling and comfort is so much better! No more massive bangs just because I’ve driven over a two inch deep or a level crossing!!
I had been quoted £150 per spring from Sytners but got a complete set of Suplex springs for £170!
I replaced the mounts with BMW parts but if you’re replacing your coils anytime soon, then certainly consider these. They may not have the performance of the Eibachs but so far I just love the fact that I don’t feel like I have to avoid every tiny bump/hole in the road whilst driving!!

This is great to hear as I've recently ordered a set myself! Are you running these with the stock dampers? Glad you're happy with them.

In the last month I also fitted a set of M-Sport equivalent Suplex springs all round. I agree with OP's comments above entirely, great replacement for the OEM springs at a fraction of the cost. Fingers crossed the rears last longer than the OEM ones (I have heard good things!).

Yeah, just got them paired with the stock dampers that were only changed last year. They seem to be a great match!

Yeah, no excuse for the OEM ones being so poor and having the known breakage issue. I typically only do 3500 miles a year so I’m hoping these Suplex replacements will last the lifetime of the car 😂

I take it your Suplex coils are single rate (same thickness throughout) rather that dual rate like the originals? If so they should last a lot longer as its the thin 'pig tails' on the originals that usually snap. My 2003 Z4 is on it's third set of coils, the first rear went at only 3 years old 15k miles! I changed to Suplex single rate about six or seven years ago, they suit my non-RFT tyres which have a little more side-wall give than RFTs so compensate for the lack of dual rate over low speed bumps.

I'm not sure why you say the Suplex "will not have the performance of the Eibachs"? Both do a job, it just depends which best suits your driving and suspension/tyre set-up. I found lower sport springs to be a PITA (literally) making the car jittery and less controllable on the poor surfaces we have in my area. The combination of RFTs and sport suspension was bum clenching in the bumpy twisties so I got rid, people forget that suspension is also there to keep the tyre in contact with the road, if it's jittering and skipping it 'aint sticking! :)

Enjoy your new set-up

Very pleased to hear that you are happy with them. I have mine just waiting to be fitted in the New Year and it is a good feeling knowing that it WILL be good. Thanks

Can I ask what everyone’s damper and spring specs are? I have a Sport with good springs (not broken anyway), slightly flakey dampers (damper collars are toast and the shaft look a little tired) and the ride quality of a brick.

And on top of all that, I live in the sticks, where the roads go from crap to “there’s a road here?!?”

So reading this post, I’m happy that a set of Standard non-sport springs are needed to raise the hight a little but should the new shocks (I’ll go oEM for those) be the Sport ones or the standard ones? My only concern I have about having Sports dampers and standard springs is that the dampers might be too heavy for the lighter spring rates? Anyone done that already?

For reference the car is used for the odd runout on the road and I grab the occasional trackday in it. So it’s not a daily driver and needs to retain a modicum of ability....

Any insight much appreciated...

👍

It's worth checking with your dealer exactly what suspension your car has, my car (2004 3.0i) has M-Sports suspension and i'm just about to order Suplex springs.
From their catalog the M-Sports fronts are part no- 06248 and the rears are 06231, the SE spec parts are front- 06252 and rear- 06228.
Their M-Sports springs are 20mm shorter at the front and 3mm shorter at the rear, I don't know how this compares to genuine BMW springs.

Did you order these springs and if so where from?
I am in need of these exact front msport springs for my 2003 3.o,If so have you got a link, thanks.
Have used suplex on a previous car and they were great but i ordered direct from the factory that seems to be closed.
Thanks again.

I've just had a new pair of rear coil springs fitted today. The car failed its MoT on Monday due to both springs being broken. They were Suplex items which I'd fitted in March 2017 and had covered 34,650 miles on them. I wasn't aware that they had broken but the difference in ride height was definitely noticable after the new ones were fitted and I can feel the difference too.
I'd ordered a pair of Kilen springs this time from buycarparts.co.uk. I've used them before and they're usually pretty quick delivery wise. This was on Tuesday and by Wednesday afternoon there still wasn't any movement on the delivery tracking system, so I phoned a local motor factors who said that they had one in stock and another would be in on Thursday morning.
So sure enough, I've ended up with two different make springs which although they look identical, the machanic says are slightly different in stiffness (he's put the stiffer one on the driver's side I think), but they're on now anyway as I need the car to attend a family funeral on Monday.
The Kilen items still haven't arrived but no doubt they will be needed in the not too distant future.
What a kerfuffle..

I ordered these Suplex part numbers at the end of 2020 from eBay seller car_parts_international.

This is a shame the Suplex ones broke after only ~34k miles. I ordered Suplex as I had only heard good things and yours is the first case I have heard negative about Suplex. I'll have to see how my front and rear ones cope over the next few years...

Might have a lot to do with the lunar crater sized potholes which appear all over the place in this part of the world after the winter. So from that point of view you'll get much better milage from the Suplexes than I did hopefully.

Started prepping the front shocks which are a combination of Suplex msport equivalent and Bilstein B4s. Probably going to tackle next month when I have some time off.
I have also prepared the rear shocks which are with the matching B4s.

Just need to buy the go through 22mm socket and a longer allen key.

I assume once fitted the tracking needs to be looked at?
