Supermarket Car park damage

Stopped off at a supermarket car park today so my better half could pick up a few things on the way home . I stayed in the car . A few minutes later a woman in her late 60`s in an already battered car decides to come round the front of my car to try and park in the space next to me and catches the front bumper enough to make the car move . She then drives straight through the parking space to the other side of the ( comparatively small ) car park and parks there instead . I got out of the car , grabbed my crutches out of the boot and went over to her . I told her that she had hit my car and she denied all knowledge . Then a friend of hers that she was meeting comes over and asks what the problem is . I explained and we all walk back to my car . I show her the damage and she wets her hand and wipes it over the mark and says that`s ok it will "buff out" almost as if this had happened before and she knew what to say but still tried to deny it was her . I asked her why she had tried to park next to me and then drove off and parked elsewhere . She replied that she decided she wanted to park elsewhere . That was when I said so you did try and park next to me and hit the car but you didn`t realise I was in the car and drove to another part of the car park so that she was nowhere near the incident . Her friend measured the height of the damage on my car and said she would check it against her friends car . I said don`t bother she`s got that many scratches on her car already you will be wasting your time . She eventually gave me 40 pound s for the damage . If I hadn`t been in the car she would have got away with it . I am hoping it will polish out but really annoying .

Do the finger nail test. If your nail glides over the scratches then it will polish out.

People are horrible

Some people really don't care. :headbang:

I hope it does polish out.

You’ll polish 90% out with a bit G3 compound.
It’s still very annoying when these scum bags take no care or accountability.
I wouldn’t have let it go if she took that attitude. £40 is an insult.

I agree, it would have been a few hundred or I'm calling plod as you drove away from an accident - just to get a reaction

Had this happen more than once. Good that you caught her. Hopefully that will polish out with a bit of elbow grease.

Having a dashcam pays dividends in such circumstances, but still might not have captured a number plate (which wouldn't have helped in your absence).

Down in the badlands of the South, every other car is a massive SUV, even armed with parking sensors, their drivers still can't park without scuffing another vehicle. As you have seen, faced with the evidence the offending driver denies it was them until you point out the paint from your car on their car. I just wonder how many of these drivers would fail an eyesight test. I did chuckle at your description of getting your crutches out of the boot to tackle the driver.

3000 grit wet and dry. Clean it first the use a rotary polisher with a decent polish. It should polish out.

I’ve just seen your location. If you can get it to me in Whitchurch I can do it for you👍

Auto center punch.
Wait for the old bag to leave her heap, then pop a few windows.
Teach the old bint

Thanks for all the replies . Yes 40 quid is a bit of an insult but I just didn`t want to get into the " you`re harassing a woman in a car park crap "

Cheers mate I will avoid.

Had a go with the polisher using Menzerna and a 3M pad . Can still see some scratches when under a strong light close up but ok in normal light .

That has come out pretty well! But sadly you'll always know it's there. :(

Good work mate. Try not to let sad people get you down. Just enjoy your car. 👍

Glad to see some positive outcome. Agree £40 is a paltry amount but she sounds like the type of person who would have just denied everything and drove off if you had pushed it.

You have used Menzerna to polish it out. Will be looking at giving my girl a machine polish to take out the usual light spiders webs that happen before a clay and ceramic polish. Would the stuff you have used do the job

Other recommendations would be helpful

Sadly there are a lot of people out there who just treat their cars like they are thing to get from A to B. They don’t care about their own cars, so makes them not give a shite about other people’s cars. One of my father in laws thought it was okay to scrape someone’s bumper as it was only cosmetic damage. :headbang:
