Super rare Drexler LSD with 4.1 gears like new for E85/E46

Wheels will be posted up this weekend.

I didn't expect the diff to be a quick sale as I expect the price relatively prohibitive but I can't stress how much it would transform the car for road and track.

This is just an example of a 4.1 on an E46 M3 (which has a 3.64 diff as standard). On a Z4 which will have a 3.31/3.07 as stock the difference will be staggering. I would expect 0-100 mph to come in a few seconds less and obviously with the LSD getting the power down will be far more predictable.

Whats the maintenance like on this diff?.... i've had plated diffs before on integra track cars and the oil needed changing every 3-4k miles. is this any different?. Also, how is it noise wise, much clunking from the plates whilst maneuvering at low speeds?..

Good question.

Drexler are OEM spec on many high end road cars like the Alpina B3S, M3 GTS etc

There maybe some extra noise at very low speeds and high lock but with some FM booster (friction modifier available from BMW) this should be negligible.

If you're regularly tracking, yearly oil changes are advised as per engine/gearbox oil. If it's road use then it follows your normal BMW recommended service intervals. With regular track use clutch packs may need replacing at 50,000 miles but again this is rarely seen. This is essentially a more durable LSD than the M-differential which even with track use sees very rare failures.

Recommended oil is Castrol Syntrax Limited Slip 75w-140 and the cost to change this diff with your current one would be around an hours labour. It's a case of getting the car on a ramp, unbolting existing diff, sliding out output flanges if necessary, swap the back cover again if necessary and bolting onto the car. Acceleration locking is set to 40% and 20% deceleration and preload to 50NM.

The diff is ready to roll with some new oil.

Now collected and booked in to be fitted on Tuesday. :)

Good to meet you today DLH, enjoy the diff. Great M coupe you have, would have been interesting to see what it can do against the GTR.
