SUPER FAST AWESOME ///M Brake Discs

Renamed the topic to make it more attractive. I should work in sales?!

I'm still struggling with how to identify brake disc wear, and frankly i'm only really guessing with the pads being OK as i can stick my finger between the caliper and the disc i'm assuming that means there's lots of depth.

I've done quite a bit of googling to little avail - anyone got any good tips?

How much is a new set (or rears/fronts individually?), and presumably do you have to change the pads with the set (even if they happened to be pretty new)?

The discs are dealer only.....

I have seen rears for £200 (pair) and fronts around £420(pair)...

Then the choice of pads is yours to choose....Also dont forget wear sensors..

Disc wear should be easy to spot. If you have a large lip on the edge of the disc then they probably need replacing.

If you don't mind taking the wheels off, you can also measure the disc thickness to see if they're still above the min (26.4mm IIRC).

Whilst you've got the wheels off you can see the pad thickness easier too.

presumably i'd need some vernier calipers to do that, maybe i should just drop it down to an indy and ask them.

Never a fan of going to a new garage and my first question to them is something that could leave me wide open to abuse. "Yes those discs are knackered, change them right away.. here we have some £500 ones now for you"

A cheap micrometer would be easier - but make sure it the range you need as the OEM front disc thickness is 28mm with a recommended wear limit of 26.4, rears are 20mm with a limit of 18.4mm (all IIRC)...

Can also get front discs from BMMiniparts.co.uk for about £170 IIRC.

Discs are not dealer only, recently did my front brake overhaul, discs from GSF,pads from EBC redstuff and piston caliper seal kit which was dealer only supplied, all in all about £440, a mornings work.

Really...

Do you have part numbers and makes?

I have heard of a company called VM who are doing discs but they are more expensive than the dealers...

Jimmy it looks like your just down the road from me. I have a jack I have a wheel brace I also have a micrometer.

PM me arrange a time I will measure all your discs up for you  might cost you a beer mind you!!!

MM, sounds like a fine offer! Beers i can definitely do! Would be interesting to hear your thoughts on the OEM Muffler mod too, i reckon it's worth a punt! ( here )

Are the GSF discs as good as OEM? They do seem like a bit of a too-good-to-be-true price?

No problem buddy when is good for you? I am around Saturday playing with my car. You can have a listen to mine it's not an m but I have a bypass pipe.

sadly i'm off up to liverpool for the weekend friday AM so no can do this week :(

I understand the 3.0 has a deeper sound than the M? I was chatting to Woody about his bypass pipe, sounds like a good mod. Hard to tell from vids tho! I think i need to sign up for the annual meet and come see some more Z's ;D

Jesus thats a big price jump from last Nov.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

What does that mean?

Link was posted to show that they are available aftermarket, but GSF are now more expensive than dealer prices...

The GSF discs are exactly the same as the dealer ones, they are manufactured by ATE ltd.

Have you read the thread?
Oh yes,
Have you?
First you make a sweeping statement saying discs are "dealer only", then ....even you, give a link to where you can get discs from GSF.
So do you still stand behind your statement "discs are dealer only"?
