Sunny days good for driving bad for cleaning?

I'd avoid doing a black car in direct sunlight this time of year, dried on water is a PITA. Wait until at least 7pm or earlyu morning and obviously try and do it out of direct sunlight and when the cars panels arent baking hot!

I did a quick wash on the Zed last night. I have been fighting with the dirt on my windshield for about a month now. I really could not get it clean.

Then I remembered ME of all people talking about using an old claybar on the glass in a old post on this forum....

THAT was the ticket. All the dirt and crap is now gone and its very clean....

Sometimes you just brain fart....

Good point, I have some screen damage (fine lines in a corner) where a piece of stone skimmed the windscreen. Might give it a go with a clay bar to see if I can reduce that. It is about 5 cm long and wide area.

I tried to do mine in the red hot sun a few weeks ago. I failed miserably :(

I washed it fine, but when it came to drying it was too hot and i was left with watermarks. I decided to wax afterwards too, did 2 panels and then gave up!

What do you guys call too hot and sunny? We're only in Spring and we've already had a couple of 30 degree celcius days already!

If I couldn't wash the car when it was sunny - it'd never be washed! I normally wash then head into the garage to dry and detail.. Am I being too careless or are you guys just really particular? :P

Guess I can't be too smug, we've had good British weather here the last few days - at least the garden is getting a good soak... :poke:

Cheers..

Nelson.

Basically what others have said, and here is the extreme side of summer & heat....
A little backhistory
In my complex back in Vegas I had to get one of the unreserved spots to wash my car as the water hose would not reach to my covered spot (reserved). Plus if I did move the car to the covered spot the unreserved spot would usually get taken before I could get the car back to the uncovered spot. Couple this with the fact I was in Vegas (desert) meant that 99% of the time I was in direct sunlight plus temperatures were generally around 85+ degrees F. BTW that's fall/spring time. I've tried real summer temps up to 95+ degrees F and higher, but for one you tire quickly unless you drink half the water you put on the car and for two I think it's impossible to not have water spots if your under the sun.

So yeah, I've washed the car in extreme heat and sun. Like others have said, you have to be very fast. Doing it in hot/sunny skies made me buy 2 microfiber drying cloths. To avoid water spots from the sun I would wash and dry one small section at a time i.e. hood, front corner panel, door, rear corner panel, trunk, etc. Not in that order of course. So yeah if it's hot & sunny be very quick, if it's just sunny I think you could away with one side of the car at a time. Even doing it on one small panel at a time I still had a slight problem with water spots.
