All of them on the gravy train with blind public nostalgia keeping them going...

I say kick they them out of Buckingham Palace, infact any of their oversized homes.

Or does the new legislation only apply to the lower classes?

Seeing as the royals create far more revenue for this country than they take themselves this is pretty irrelevant.

Living, as I do, in the country of Madame la Guillotine, I can see exacly what borught about the French revolution and the spilling of 'aristocratic' blood. However, although there may have been good reason for England to follow suit in those turbulent times, I think there are more deserving cases than Royalty, for the the blade in recent years - incompetent politicians, self-obcessed bankers and a host of other greedy b*****ds that have brought the economy to it's knees!
In defence of the Guillotine, it was, and possible still could be, the most humane method of despatching undesirables that has ever been invented:
The total weight of a guillotine was about 1320 pounds.
The blade itself was about 88 pounds.
The blade fell at a rate of about 21 feet per second.
The guillotine was orginally called the guillotin (gee oh tah), but poets took to writing it as guillotine (gee oh teen) for easier rhyming schemes.
The actual beheading took one 30th of a second.
The system relied on gravity, so no electrical costs involved.
- just a bit messy, but sawdust is quite cheap.

Voted to keep - but maybe jump a generation?

Monarchy must be one of the UK's main attractions from an international perspective. Republic of Britain.... no ta.

I'm not terribly fussed, but voted for

I voted for:

as mentioned above the millions of people that come to this country to see the royals and buck house etc every year bring far more money than the royals cost us. They also do an hell of a lot of good with things like the prince's trust.

It would be a travesty if we ever got rid of them in my view. It is a big part of what makes us British, and in a time when there are less and less things that make us british (or what is there is being diluted) we need to hang on to what we have.

This Windsor lot are foreigners who changed their family name to hide their true nationality. :x

Cromwell managed to get rid of them - yet we still invited them back once he died. :headbang:

Let's not forget the private income that Charlie collects from the Duchy of Lancaster - an estate that has a capital worth of some £400,000,000
It makes him one of the wealthiest private landlords in the country, I think it should be the property of the state - that's you and me!

Love The Royal Family.....especially the one when Jim said, 'I'm not fiddling with meself, I paid a quid for these underpants and I've got about 50 pence worth stuck up me arse!'

My Grandmother is the age of the Queen and I wouldn't expect her to do 5% of what the Queen does. She works a lot of hours for her age. It's interesting that a high number of people think that the Royals do nothing and ride around on horses all day. They all work hard!!

I voted keep them :)
