Sun is out - windbreaker question

Finally gave up and took it off to out back in the boot and found the straps in there! But it looks like rain now. :(

I leave mine on all time (summer and winter) and find rear view visibility fine and as for those straps, mine is only fitted two per side. Just pull those buckles tight it isn't going to fly off. I've even cut off the plastic bits on the redundant fixings and it looks very neat.

I've done the two front straps for the roll hoops and one of the backs but can't find the other two!
Ps. It's really cold.

Are we talking about the dress or the windbreak here? Whilst I may consider myself qualified by knowledge in both areas it is fair to say I have more hands on experience in the latter (though not for want of trying).

Don't get too hung up on it. Wind deflector on or wind deflector off makes little difference to the conditions in the car with the roof down once you go beyond 45ish mph imho. Your choice of dress will doubtless contribute more to my (I mean your) driving pleasure.

On a more serious note I've never ever removed mine (clip in type) and have never thought my rearward visibility was significantly affected as a result. Put it on and leave it I say, that way when we get those odd bright dry fresh mornings during Autumn/Winter/Spring you're ready to hit the button and enjoy!

I find the faster I go the better the conditions are in the cab with the roof down 8-)

Try without the deflector in place for comparison. I found the deflector on my old Z3 made a very noticeable difference to cabin conditions all the way up to motorway speeds of 70mph but never beyond of course. The Z4 deflector however I find far less effective with the difference becoming hardly noticeable once you approach dual carriageway and motorway speeds (50 - 70mph range). I think this is probably due to the greater distance between the windscreen and the deflector and the greater gap between the trailing edge of the side windows and the roll hoops on the Z4 when compared to the Z3.

But what's wrong with a bit of wind in your hair anyway? That's the whole point isn't it?

When I first got my zed it didn't have the wind deflector. I thought it was ok and just wore a hat to keep my long hair out my eyes so I could see. Then someone was selling one of the leather wind deflectors on the forum so thought I'd try it. It made a massive difference and I dont have to wear a hat anymore! Maybe for people with short hair it wont make much difference?

When i first got my car I hated it with the windbreak in place... Especially at night with the auto dimming rear view mirror.

Got used to it quickly now though! And its always there now... only removed to clean it!

I managed to try it out today on the M5 and don't think it makes much difference tbh and I prefer the silver hoops. Anyway it was nice and sunny in the morning so topless on the motorway :driving: until 45 mins later when specks of rain appeared so had to a quick roof up on a roundabout.
It does hamper the visibility a bit in dark places but I'll keep it on for a while..can't see much out of the back anyway and we can quickly speed out of trouble anyways. :)

How did the stereo upgrade go?

It didn't, apparently no-one is confident enough to attempt Z4. :headbang:
Anyone recommend a competent place between Cheltenham and London?

Tbh if you want to improve the stereo, the speakers and possibly an amp would be the way to go rather than replacing the head unit. Someone on here replaced the head unit involving chopping vents and general expense, only to put it all back again.

Oxford car audio are very good. Very friendly and very competent.

I think I'll come to Ox next saturday, will you be around for some advice pls?

That's shocking to say the least...upgrading mine was a piece of pie!

get a decent set of components, make a baffle for them, run fresh wire to the woofer and tweeter (stick with a 2 way kit for simplicity)

and amplify.

I'm selling my wind blocker from my Z4M if anyone is interested. It's the mesh one that retails for $345.99 or somewhere around their. I'm selling it for $150, but will consider serious bids. I would add a pic to this post but not familiar with this website too much. I can email you if you send me your email. My email is [email protected]

Prefer my rigid fitted one than the gimp mask, from the small pic it looks like a pair of tights,, :fuelfire: and buy the rigid fixed one haha

On a serious note I leave mine in all the time, no issues with rear visibility other than you cant see exactly what the car that is coming up behind you is (annoying if you are driving a wee bit too fast and dont want the boys in blue sneaking up and passing an sp30 your way!) - then again you should be using the side mirrors anyway!

Also it sometimes interferes with the sensor in the auto dip interior mirror, and doesn't dip despite me being blinded
