Had to use my dad's car to go to work today while I get mine serviced. First time I have not driven another car other than my Z for over 2 months now. It was a W reg fiesta and I felt so high up, it didn't feel right.

You really get to appreciate steering, performance of your own car when you drive someone elses. Suppose that's a good way to enjoy your car more rather than get fed up with it. :driving:

it is different using another car after the z4... but you soon get used to it if switching often :)

I use a Citroen C2 every day for work and my better half has an X5 so going from the Z4 to the X5 is really strange. Worst thing is when I'm driving C2 and try to take a bend at the same speed as I would in the Z4!! Scary moment!

I had exactly the same when I drove a Fiesta, and it was only after a few weeks of weekend driving the Z4. Felt so high and claustrophobic, and the steering was an effort - would be funny to drive an old school pre-power steering car :D

I didn't conclude much about the experience - it was an older Fiesta after all.

There is no substitue for our car!!!

Hehe, yeah though it feels unnatural as all hell to drive someone else's car now.

My other ride is a Mercedes Benz ML-350. The odd feeling comes when I am cornering and reach out for the shifter. Feels odd not to find one for a downshift.

Worst experience though was many years ago, driving my then girlfriends 1974 Chevrolet Nova, coming down the highway. I went to change gears, lurched forward in the seat to screaming tires. My initial thought was what the hell, I must have broke the drive shaft.

A moment later, I realized that her car had an automatic transmission, power steering, power brakes. I TRYED to push in the clutch, found there was none, only power brakes.

Woke me up !!! lol

I go back and forth from my Z to my 1 ton dual wheel crew cab Dodge truck. Now thats a REAL switch!!

Yeah, I felt so high up in a Fiesta so anything that is actually high would be like driving a mountain. Will have to find someone I know with a 4x4 and put it to the test.

My weekday drive is a Toyota Hilux HL3 pick-up, with a 0-60mph of about 19 seconds and thats if I'm not towing the trailer, which I often am.

Getting into the Zed is always a joy after the jeep, a joy which my better half cannot begin to appreciate (she doesn't drive) no matter how much I bleat on about it  As far as she's concerned the Zed is just impractical for shopping........

I'm used to the regular changes now and don't try to take corners at 60mph in the jeep anymore  But I reckon if my weekday drive was a regular car such as an Audi A4 then I wouldn't appreciate the Zed nearly half as much!

Substitue ride. Hmm...

The 2002's (BMW 2002) getting new paint, carpets, front seat belts, and much love right now. 8)
The Coupe's (BMW 3.0CS) going to my folks when I get back from this business trip. She's an auto anyway... 8)
The Jeep likes the dealership's service center too much.

Would have to pick the 2002 over the other two as a substitute. :driving:

You get used to changing if you drive different things all the time.
I spent the weekend off roading a Jeep in Wales on some terrain rather different to the Zed's preferred domain...

Compare that to the Zed, then having to tow the Jeep home with an X5 and trailer, being passed by the odd truck.

Liking the look of your Jeep

How come you had to tow the Jeep home?

I use my Z during the week and at weekends use the family car which is an ML. One extreme to the toher. But as others have said you do get used to it.

My missus has a Fiesta ST. Nice car but it feels like a van to get into and drive compared to the Z4! My MINI didn't feel all that different to the Z4 though.

Going from my Z to my 78 F-250 is a bit of a shock at times. But the Bronco II isn't that much of a change other than sitting a tad higher and handling like a... well, like a Bronco II!.
BTW, VERY nice Jeep CJ!

Elberto - thanks

I towed it as it is currently without tax, insurance or the annual MOT (test certificate). It was just not worth spending so much money

Towing also allows me to push the Jeep knowing I can still get home no matter what I break :)

Drove my mum car the other day a '05 Audi A3 1,6, the steering felt so light, so did the clutch and gear change, made me love the Z4 even more :D
