Subaru WRXi STi pulled from the UK

I bought my 2007/07 Hawkeye STI brand spanking, ploughed many thousands into it and got it upto 460bhp with 470lb/ft.

As a driving machine in that level of tune it was an absolute monster and I miss it severely!

The fact remains that if I didn't have the long trip into work that I have, I would go back to it over my Z4C in a heartbeat!

However, I do not miss filling up with Vpower for £80 odd and getting 150 miles to the tank on a regular basis!!

I bought an M instead, all boy racers drive scoobs or evos they don't have the prestige of the German motors

I fully agree on the prestige side of things, however, as a pure driving machine you have to spend double the cash to rival the likes of Scoobies or Evos.

That used to be the case. Not anymore which is why the STi price was cut recently because it was dearer than an M135i and was a long way behind in performance.

Yeah fair point, guess I was relating to the price/performance of the past.

A 330bhp evo was on my radar years ago just before I bought my TVR & I still haven't drove anything since that gives you the confidence to attack a road like that did, but I wasn't keen on the boy racer image.

I have also driven 3 different versions of scoobys & they were very capable aswell but its the image problem again that worried me... But I still wouldn't say no to a 22B/P1/RB5! In some ways it's a shame that these cars have had their day as they offered good performance at a reasonable price if you weren't buying new.

To be honest most Subaru owners couldn't give a toss what other owners think of them and that's the way it should be. Anyone who reckons its all boy racer 20yr olds tbh doesn't have a clue as the running costs put it well out of reach of that group. Having been to many meets including the McRae gathering which had over a thousand imprezas I can tell you the main owners are not too dissimilar to the group and age range here with the only very generalised difference is they put performance above everything else (eg interior quality). Reliability is as good if not better than the Zs even with big tunes. And the interior (dash as the seats are very good) is basic but v hard wearing after nearly 100k mine still looked new.

Personally for me I'd take an s204 or a Lichfield type 25 but any 2003 onwards sti is a proper drivers car, wrx less so but can be easily modified.

As has been mentioned the only reason IMHO they were doomed was the super unleaded and thirsty engines as most previous owners will tell you this is the main or only reason they haven't still got them that and the things like the focus rs and normal hot hatches now making decent numbers without the consumption issues.

I had a play with a hawkeye an an evo 8 when getting my previous car.

Imo nothing drove as easily and as fast down the a and b roads as those, even in wet conditions.

I wouldnt consider myself an amazing driver, but they inspire confidence which no car i have driven since has given.

But too expensive to run, and the evo's need servicing too often and are not reliable..... Imagine it wont be line before the evo has the same fait as this.

I was torn between the evo and sti but went with the latter purely because the servicing was double the interval! Saying that it was cheap on the sti not sure of the evo price though!

Horrible tacky cars with no style and dated looks and interiors, however with generally awesome performance.

I'd never ever want one but wouldn't mind the drivetrain slotted into something better looking and more classy.

There is also the problem of actually holding onto them! Someone a friend knew had 2 stolen from the NEC car park! 1st one was at a conference there, the other at a show 2 years later!

The uk cars post round head lights came with high end alarms and trackers fitted as std so would assume they were older ones. That being said I know a few people who's houses were broken into to steal the keys which is worse IMO

I duno, there are a lot of <25 people that I know that have Scoobs and Evos. Running costs will be similar to the M although the intervals a lot shorter?

Early Evo's had a scary low service interval. The more modern ones were reasonable at around 10k and service packs were available that levelled the playing field against BMW, VAG etc

10,000 miles between services if I remember correctly the m5 or m3 of similar age is shorter 2001-2008

Never liked the looks of the scooby... agree with OG that its too 'chavvy' in its appearance.

Seems to be quite a lot of  for the Scooby's talents even if the image was dodgy!

Remember the Honda S2000 being pulled? Suddenly the stock of unsold models started shifting and the previous heavy discounts went out of the window, I wonder if the same will happen with the Scooby? not sure it will with the current model?
