Sub Zero Xmas Road Trip

After a Christmas Day of typical over indulgence and Boxing Day recovery we decided to get away from it all for a couple of days driving. So, on Saturday morning we booked a night in the Stirling Holiday Inn and set off for Scotland.

Saturday 27th December

The diesel lives on the drive so is pretty frozen up on this frosty morning. The M gets the garage (how it should be)

After 540 miles I thought it was time to call in at the local car wash on the way home

Nearly broke my bloody neck sliding around on the water that was freezing on the floor around the car wash :eek3:

Anyway, we're both back at work tomorrow, but had a great time.

Merry Christmas everyone

very nice, take you long for the drive? what diesel engine is in the 1 series? r they any good, gf planning to get one can't decide between with the A3

Hey Road Trip - I'm jealous. You dropped perfect on the weather (cold and clear is better than warm and grey) and crossed some amazing terrain on the trip

Very nice indeed, I recognise the A68 on the way back down again, but what was the full route you went please?

I think I recognise that road - A708 north-east from Moffat? If so, awesome road but a bit narrow in places :driving:

Is it quiet enough for a good blast, do you get many cars in front, plenty placed to overtake, ta?

Just your luck really. Not massively busy whenever I've driven it, but there's only a couple of bits to overtake on from memory. I've only driven half a dozen times this year, usually north-south but cutting onto it halfway down after coming down the B709 from Innerleithen/Traquair. I usually ended up catching someone towards the southern end and just cruising from there to Moffat

A road trip must include -

At least 1 overnight stay
A visit to a least one other country
At least 500 miles

All IMHO obviously :D

Paddy - that was a 4 x 4 on it's roof

That's not the first car I've seen overturned on that mini-Stelvio section of the A68, I suppose it's caught out quite a few people over the years.

No need to when you already stay in the best country for driving roads and scenery :D
