Sub woofer fitting question

I have the subwoofers which I am going to add to the 6 speaker setup and I think Bigwinn did this as well at some stage if I remember well.

Questions are:

- Does anyone have a link to the mounting screws for the speakers themselves as they didn’t come with the speakers
- I want to join to the cables of the existing rear speakers, do I need to take all the boot apart to get to those or is there an easier way to find them elsewhere? Not fancying too much taking the parcel shelf out.

Thanks chaps

A great upgrade even without the amp

I spliced the wires to the upper speakers behind the headrests

From memory it’s easier to go in from the boot instead of taking the plastic trim off behind the seats

Go from the bottom of the boot upward should be ok to leave the shelf in place

Bolts for the speakers 07129904343
The grommets for the bolts to fit in (won’t be there in the car) 07129904343

Thanks Stuart, that is great. Will lift the carpet instead.

Do you remember the colour of the wires to go into? The new speakers came with some wires attached so will splice into those.

Surely the subs won’t work without a separate amp to power them? The 6-speaker head unit doesn’t have enough juice. It’ll do the door speakers just fine, but subs have a different resistance to everything else.

Yes bud

99% sure drivers side is blue:blue/brown and passenger is yellow:yellow/brown

You can’t miss them they are entwined together

It’s worked good in both cars I’ve done

Distorts a little if it’s turned up to 11 but for my listening pleasure it’s suffice

Good to know. Since I've had a Z4 with the 10 speaker (non-DSP) set up, I had resolved never to buy one with the basic system again. Maybe that’s not such an impediment.

You can just see them in this photo here

I think the blue (drivers side) is blue:blue/violet

But you can see how they are run spiralled together

Thanks Stuart, that makes it easier to fine. I did spot the blue twisted wires in the loom when I took the cubbies out but they would be very difficult to splice in there so will pull the carpet up at the back to get them from there.

First order the screws though.

Subscribed. Interesting to hear about the results and ease of installation. Got a set kicking about at home that could really do with an installation.

Alternatively, how hard is it to retrofit an aftermarket amp into the system?

Just mind that there are two different sets available, one that will work without an Amp, and one that needs the Amp to work.

From Zedebee's infinite wisdom source:

Part numbers for the non THX subs are: 65126915840 to 6/06, 65134167255 from 6/06 to 04/07, and 65139143269

All in now. Bit of a faff when you try to splice the speaker wires that there is no play in the cable (or hardly).

Somehow lost a back of a carpet clip somewhere but could not find it anywhere :?

Sound is a great improvement though.

The left speaker wires to splice into. The blue twisted ones were on the pic from Stuart

I've noticed a bit of a rattle from the passenger sub of my recently bought Z4, upon removing the grill I've noticed that the six screws that affix the subwoofer plate are missing, from realoem I gather its part number 07147155310 that I need is that right? Are there any alternative screws that can be used? Thanks :)

As I have recently retrofitted the sub woofers, I can confim that standard chassis screws work just as well assuming the plastic clips are behind the pblue circles in your diagram. The OEM part numbers were silly prices, so just bought standard BMW chassis screws (bag of 20 for a fiver).

I bought the OEM plastic inserts for the screws to go into though. Without those, it will not work.
