Sub Enclosure (now with pics)

Hi, after a bit of advice, I bought a 6 inch sub today ( http://www.jlaudio.co.uk/6w3v3-4-car-audio-w3v3-subwoofer-drivers-92145 ) with the aim of fitting it in the cubby hole behind the drivers seat. I know it will be a very tight fit but I'm going to have a play and see what I can do. The question I have is as the enclosure is metal should I Dynamat inside the enclosure? I'm going to seal up all the holes in the enclosure to make it air tight, but not sure if the Dynamat is needed or not? Google brings mixed views on the subject, so was hoping someone had some first hand experience.

Use the Dynamat to seal up all the holes, will do just fine.

If you're after a cheaper (but equally good) option, silent coat is worth looking into.

Plus the added weight to the metal enclosure will reduce the internal resonant frequency which is never a bad thing.
 
Well I had a go this morning and I'm quite pleased with the results :D First I made a front plate for the sub

Then I lined the box in Dynamat

Then wired it all up, now just got to work out where to cut the original surround and get some speaker cloth to cover it all up. Not to bad for a mornings work.

Thanks, spent the afternoon fitting component speakers to the front and Dynamating the doors, long old job, I've got one side done, the other can wait for tomorrow.

There is a small hole in the back of the enclosure for the wires that then feed through the rear bulk head to the boot, then wired into my amp. I've been surprised how easy it is to route wires, not had to drill any holes and everything's hidden.
 
Looks great Oli, nice to hear you've dynamatted the doors. Mine have a reassuringly great sound when you close them now, hope yours do too?
Don't forget to add some wadding in that sub enclosure, gives the bass a slightly richer taste.
You've pretty much just done what I'm doing to mine next month. Don't suppose you still have the templates for the front plate you made do you?
What components did you go with?
 
I went with http://www.jlaudio.co.uk/product/54216.104258.103584.56909.0/99617/_/C2-650 I also got http://www.jlaudio.co.uk/product/54216.104258.103584.103571.0/99612/_/C2-400x for the rears, but not sure I will need them. I can whip the sub out and make you a template or just make you the plate if you want, what subs going in yours?
 
I've been wondering what subs I want to fit for a while now, I know space is tight but a little part of me still wants to try and fit an 8" kicker L7 behind each seat. Am I a mentalist for thinking about doing this or just a bass junkie?
 
Going to stick to the one at the moment as the passenger side cubby hole is quite useful. Im pleased with how it sounds, it not all that powerful, so if your after the whole car shaking then you would be disapionted. Still not sure what to do about covering it up. Was going to cut up the plastic box and use speaker cloth. But reluctant to cut it up, as i like any mods to be reversible.
