About to bite the bullet on some 400m wheels for my 2003 2.5 roadster but want to ask the best set up. I have the choice of the following:

FRONT: 8J x 18 (ET47)
REAR: 8.5J x 18 (ET50)

FRONT: 8J x 18 (ET36)
REAR: 8.5J x 18 (ET47)

FRONT: 8J x 18 (ET34)
REAR: 8.5J x 18 (ET47)

I know the latter would work from reading other threads, but read something about ET47/ET50 being closer to the oem set up?

Any clarification would be greatly appreciated!

ET47/ET50 will be exactly the same offsets as OE staggered 18s like 108s, MV2s, etc.

Either of the other options should work. ET 36 fronts will sit 11mm further out in the arches and plenty of people run spacers!

I had ET29 fronts and ET40 rears on my previous Coupe and had no problems with them.

Great, thanks for such a speedy reply. Would rather keep to OE staggered set up, so I'm thinking:

FRONT: 8J x 18 (ET47) with 225/40/R18
REAR: 8.5J x 18 (ET50) with 255/35/R18

If you think that looks good, I'll buy them :D

Those sizes would work fine as that is what the OE staggered 18s have.

But given a choice I'd probably go for ET36 or 34 fronts and ET47 rears just to get them sitting further out in the arches without needing spacers.

Not great photos but the first is with 108s so ET47 front and ET50 rear. Second is with the same rim and tyre sizes but ET29 front and ET40 rear.

400M wheels were the standard factory fitment for most F3x M-sport models. Then there were cost options of mainly 19" (704M etc).
The offsets for the F3x were ET36 front and ET47 rear, no matter what OEM wheels they were.

I may be wrong here but as far as I know:
400M wheels were only made in one size; 18", 8J front, 8.5J rear with ET of 36 and 47 respectively.
I would check that either the offsets being offered aren't wrongly advertised (it happens a lot), or the offsets are correct but they are copy 400M wheels, or a different style.

Also, if you went with 36 and 47 offsets over the 47 and 50 standard, your fronts would poke out 11mm further and your rears 3mm, so being and looking almost like a square setup from outside.

Thanks, really useful info! In that case I'm going to go for the ET34 AND ET47's, as I'm not keen on spacers.

Interesting, i had a look again at the ad for the ET47/50 and it provided part numbers that actually suggest they are ET34/47. I think you're spot on!
