'O' level physics says that hot water will take more energy (and hence time) than cold water to freeze. Reason is that the water has to get down to freezing point before it can start freezing and this takes more energy when the water starts out hot. Bleedin' obvious. From this point on the energy to totally freeze the water is the same.

contradicts the above from the evidence of experimental results, and although several theories have emerged to support this none have been conclusively verified.
So, the jury is still out on this.
