Forum friends, in case you have the same problem I did for some time...
I've been searching for various cell phone and iPod car kits that would fit in my Z4.
- Never tried the windshield mount because I don't like the look (also fear it will leave a mark on the glass).
- The same goes for any "suction" or "adhesive tape" mounts.
- I tried the false cigarette lighter mount but it doesn't fit (and broke).
- Tried ProClip, but after 20 minutes of using those two plastic wedges to slightly pry open the dash, I didn't want to chance it.
- Didn't want to use ProClip for the air conditioning/heating vent attachment either (fearing it will break the vent off on rough roads)...
So... after $100+ later...
I came across this nifty thing
http://www.kk.org/cooltools/archives/000022.php
It's placed on the dash in front of the passenger seat... right next to the nav system and works as well as anything I've had or dared to use. My only concern is on scorching hot days when the Sun is beating down on the dash and beaming directly on the iPod but I suppose a screen would be suffice.
My point is... I hope our friends at BMW will figure out a better formula for the dash in the new redesigned Z. What would be cool is if the dash was extended out [slightly in a V shape] so that climate controls are available for both passengers to control on either side, and this would give more room for other things on the dash, like an ipod holder, an additional cigarette lighter/usb, and other things like pressure gauges, etc.
Am I describing another car?
