Stupid CD multi-changer!

I have only owned my Z4 Coupe for about 6 months (its nearly 2 years old) and in that time i have had constant trouble with the Multi-changer behind the seats. Its very rare that it goes through all 6 CD's in the cassette without totally jamming itself up and refusing to play any of them. I have taken the car back once, and they put a new cassette in, and all seemed well for about 3 months.

Two weeks ago it started playing up again, so i booked it into another dealership for them to have a look at it. I explained that it has happened before, and could the CD reader be at fault? I turned up the next day, and all they had done was replace the cassette again. I explained that i suspected it would jam again, and guess what, within a week, it has jammed up again!!!!

Has anyone else had similar problems?

Yes - I replaced mine when it jammed (sadly not a warrantly item) It's not common but equally not rare either and there is another thread on the site where recently someone else has been experiencing similar problems.

Most of the time it's the unit not the cassette that breaks so I would insist on a new unit. The dealer may be reluctant a it's expensive and a fairly big dismantle job to get it out.

This is annoying as they are more than willing to fit it to secure a sale...

Sale = commission and dealer volume rewards, etc.
Warranty work = loss, or at least highly controlled income from BMW

Just my cynical view

I replies are as i expected. I will be taling this up with BMW and asking for a new unit to be fitted. Don't get me wrong, i love the BMW brand and in the past i have chose it over others for the value i think it represents. But if i'm paying top dollar for a car, i expect it to work, and for them to listen to me, the person who drives the car everyday!

I will see what happens???

I have one in mine but only used it for a week or so till I connected my ipod. As other have suggested I would guess dealer doesnt want to change unit due to work involved in removing some of the interior.

Surprise surprise, it works today! Stupid, stupid thing. It must be a female unit, as it can't make its mind up!!! ha ha.
