Student accomodation - acceptable standards

Bournemouth halls were brand new when my son had that in the first year, that was like the inside of a Hilton - very nice (Dorchester house).

Student letting does seem to be a rip off with no money spent on the house at all and try to get the maximum out of it. Not something I would ever want to do.

That's good to know about the halls, I'm not sure of the name of his but I do know that they are fairly new. They do sound expensive though, I'm sure he's paying over 100 per week! For s tiny little room with an ensuite.

Jeez, yes he's in Lyme Regis. Cheers PVR. I think I'll be a good big brother and sort him out with beer tokens and the occasional food token, he's going to be skint if bank of M+D don't help him out much.
 
Was that a fully catered place? For some perspective Liverpool's halls are about £115-160 per week depending on which level of room you choose. Most of that is within 2yrs old apart from the fully catered places which isn't.
 
I went to uni in Bournemouth, and graduated 3 years ago and it was the same then, some houses were really nice and some not so nice, popular areas back then were Winton and Wharminster but you paid a premium to live there even in the not so nice houses.
Also found a lot of landlord’s didn’t want houses with just lads, (especially the nice ones) the halls were spot on though even when i was there.
I would have a chat to the landlord and get them to agree with the issues you have raised, so it doesn’t come to haunt you when they check out next year! I would be push for windows to be sorted though as damp and mould isn’t healthy and can also be expensive to sort out if left un resolved!

When I moved in my ex's son into his second year at Uni into his shared house, we found a rat in his room on the first day......nice eh?

Nothing is cheap when it comes to Student accommodation believe me..and nothing is ever clean, well at least not for long anyway!!
 
Yes, he is in Winton which at least had a nice Tandoori where we ate sunday night :D
 
Take pics, on a phone is better as time stamped and hand it back in the state he got it. If the landlord is reputable it will be in a hold account and you can appeal if he tries to withhold deposit.
 
Yes, taken pictures of everything. Just preparing an email with all the photographs attached requesting fixes to get it to the expected standard.

That email will be proof as well that items that are not correct have been noted at the beginning of the rental.
 
Good for you PVR it's a supposedly regulated industry that preys on young folk year after year main thing we found was photos and correspondence at the start kept the accommodation as good as it was going to be who h usually hovered just above habitable 8)
 
Landlord should address mould definitely.
That's about it that you can insist on.
You can ask about the other things but the mould should be sorted asap.
These type of things should have been agreed to before signing the contract.

Make sure he has alot of photos of everything!
I make a video of each room and go into extreme detail about everything so I don't get burnt when getting my deposit back
