well after torquing a lug bolt to bmws 120nm it noticeably stretched the bolt, i panicked, so now my car is sat in the garage feeling rather sorry for itself with no wheels, anyhow i decided to order these bits from turner....

i take the wheels off reguarly for cleaning so this will make it alot easier.

but mostly i want to be able to torque these down and KNOW they staying put, bare in mind im doing quite a few trackdays, studs and nuts is a conversion i really wanted to do.

interesting to note the m3 GTS also had a stud and nut conversion from bmw i took extensive pics @ auto sport show.

yup torqued to bmw specs as well, arhh well, all my nuts and locking wheel nuts will be in the classifed section soon, lol

Beedub, don't they have to be replaced after so many applications ? I thought about them but was put off by that an the fact I'd have to drill the Allen head off the stud to prevent someone undoing it.

the studs are designed just like your stock bolts, as long as their not stretched via over tightening you can take your rims off 20x day if you so will, this will be a relativly inexpensive mod that will be a great help when it comes to cleaning the arches/swapping to dedicated track rims, its also worth to note these stud are far stronger than the stock bolts, and combined with gthe kics r26 locking nut is still about .5 of the weight of the standard lug bolt.

As for the Allen end, once youve torqued these down to bmw 120nm, can you imagine trying to srewthese off with the threads locktited AND only being able to use the 5mm allen head!! The allen head will snap long before the stud comes out.. i think this is my last Cheapish mod left to do that will actually make a difference when using these items.

Note the rotating end collars to allow proper and even torquing.... plus it'll help keep my nut seats on the car in the alloy in good condition, Also i can use upto 12.5mm spacer and NOT need longer studs. The whole 20 of the kics r26 composite nuts weight less than 2lbs, pretty awesome! they also have lock nuts included.

Really looking forward to installing these, i will take some more detail pics once they arrive.

interesting...

yup going to buy a new bolt tomorrow for the one that stretched, then all my bolts including locking wheel nuts will be for sale, all in near perfect condition since i wasnt constantly taking them on and off, more to the point these bolts have never been exposed to salt/constant rain.

Cant agree more, i stupidly bought a set of cheap aloy wheel nuts for my last car, they fused to the steel stud and snapped off when i tried to undo them, two snapped nuts leaving just the shoulder firmly holding the wheel in place,
one new wheel, wheel bearing and 2 studs later leaving a £500 pound hole in my wallet
i think you can guess how attractive the expensive nuts looked after forking that lot out.

You didn;t use any lubricant or anti-seize on the bolts, did you? This is usually the reason fasteners are stretched beyond the yield point at the specified torque, as the torque values are always for dry threads, unless specified otherwise. This is due to the much lower friction coefficient of a lubricated thread.

these came in today....... the studs are proper quality items and are made by ARP, my rims will break well before these studs, the kics r26 nut is a work of art.... i actually dont want to put them on my car, they would look great in my display cabinet, they are soooooo light, they are composite and are ridiculously strong and light, i wish i had scales so i could weight the two but the WHOLE set of these nuts weight in @ less than 2lbs, crazy... so its always nice to drop some unspring mass. heres some pics!! note the four locking composite nuts as well, cant wait for the weather to pick up so i can get out their and install these, while im their i will be detailing the liners ect, behind all wheels.

Nice!

So you screw in the studs and loctite them in place, they will never move again? Then just use the nuts? Sure my Fiat Panda had factory studs.

The ends of the studs have a 5mm allen end, a drop of locktite and torque using torque wrench, the nuts are torqued to bmws 120nm spec.
