Stubby!

Not sure ive ordered this one http://www.ebay.com/itm/2-4-Black-Short-Stubby-Aerial-Antenna-Mast-fit-most-BMW-/231174378892?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&fits=Make%3ABMW&vxp=mtr&hash=item35d311158c will let you know when i get it if you want

Is there any difference in reception between the whip and stubby?

Is it a straight screw out, screw back in or does the mounting attached to the car need changing too?

I havnt noticed any difference in reception, I mainly listen to FM so not sure if AM is the same.

It is a straight swap just unscrew the old and screw in the new

I just bought that one last week fits perfect and cant tell any difference in the reception

Hi Adam,

Could you take a photo of where the stubby meets the base please, I've tried 2 & they both seem to have a gap / visible join where it meets the base vs the whip.

Cheers

Matt

Mangowalk stubbies are popular on here - though they come from the US. You can find their eBay page here

http://stores.ebay.co.uk/Mangowalk-Inc/_i.html?_nkw=Bmw&submit=Search&_sid=1879787

The one most seem to have is the 3" one on the fourth row down. I have factory nav and this aerial, no issues. That link above takes me to a stubby that's for a Rover so maybe their nav setup is different. I don't have issues with reception but if you're in the boonies your experience may be different.

Thanks Bing. You are only up the road from me, so if it works for you, then should be ok for me too!

PS what are "boonies"?

Boonies - middle of nowhere... No idea where it comes from, may be peculiar to Scottish vernacular :D

I'll look out for that language spreading south to Ashford!

I see that this add also says Does (sic) NOT compatible with satellite radio and/or GPS system....but yours works!

I guess £10 including delivery is not much of a gamble to move over to the dark-side....

Same here, though not bad enough that I've switched back yet, and I listen to the radio a fair amount.

Our cars don't have satellite radio, and the GPS antenna is elsewhere in the car... In the trim above the rear view mirror IIRC. It'll work fine

Definitely a difference. The stubby reception can be pretty rubbish. Radio 1 & 2 are ok.... but things like Heart, KissFM etc aren't that great at all.

Whippy was much better but it doesn't look half as good...

Hi Matt,

Here's a pic of mine, there is a very small gap but you only really notice it close up so it doesn't bother me.
