Stubby rides again

I know that this subject has been mentioned frequently in the general forum as having a stubby aerial seemed to be a must for many Z4 owners. I kept seeing the discussions but could not really see why people bothered. However, someone recently (sorry I cannot link to the post as I have searched for it without luck) mentioned that a Peugot stubby works really well. Details are Peugeot short aerial
Part number 6561 N3 65mm Long. I contacted my local dealer and he said it cost about £5.50. I am sure you can get it for less on ebay but I could not be bothered. I ordered the part and screwed it on a couple of days ago. It is a direct replacement for the BMW provided aerial and it seems to work perfectly in the 2009 Z4 with the nav system. I must confess that it does look a lot better and I am now a firm convert to the stubby brigade.

Thanks Mike - this sounds like an excellent and very cheap mod. Would be great if you could post a picture. I'm sure many Zed owners would be interested. I will resist the temptation to put the, 'This thread is worthless without pictures' smilies but I am sure someone will......

Glad to oblige in all three areas :D

Does look good, and for £6, you can't fault it!

So £6 from a peugeot dealer gets me that stubby version which I can screw stright into the existing point on my 03 Z4?

It cant be that cheap and easy to get rid of the grovy dancer arial currently fitted, can it??? :o

sk93, Thanks for the link. I searched for Peugot and did could not find it! Knew it was there somewhere. :)

speedski, Yes it can

I found out about this stubby from the same dealer on another forum and ordered it. They shipped it out the same day and I received it from the UK to the USA in less than a week. Now all I need is the car to put it on. I am picking up my 2010 35i tomorrow!!!! :driving:

Think I will order one even though my car will be delivered March 1st, at least I can then play with part of the car 8)

Is the reception still good though?

Lucky bug*er :D

Just picked one up from my local Citroen dealer for my wife's Cooper S - 6.5cm long, no impact on radio reception and all for £3.80!! (part no. is 6561.N3)

Why pay £10 for a mangowalk stubby?

The stubby antenna is for AM reception and the built in phone option if your phone plugs into the adapter in the console. The FM antenna runs the width of the rear bumper [long dipole antenna], while the GPS antenna for the NAV is located in the black box in front of the rear view mirror on the windshield, and if you got the TV option, its antennae [there are 2] will be located on both sides of the rear bumper.

Thats a point surely it's better to get the same one from Citroen, as it will be cheaper than Peugeot although it's the same part.

All of which begs the question "Is there really no effect on radio?" Did anyone check AM and their snap-in phone adapter?

I listeded to AM the other day after fitting mine just to check it worked - and it did, just as well, if not better than the original...
