Just removed my bmw stubby after finding the reception is very poor.Fitted the wip aerial again & reception is fine again. Anyone else had the same problem ? Dont stay in the sticks & never had a problem with radio reception before. Use fm & thought the fm aerial was in the rear bumper.

I live in the sticks and dont have any problems unless im in the fells where you get barely any anyway.

The whip antenna serves as a back up for that in the rear bumper when reception is poor

Oddly... I've just had a look at RealOEM and it seems the DAB antenna is a long one inside the rear bumper or thereabouts.. I only use DAB (never FM or AM etc) and thought the stubby had reduced the signal on DAB, clearly putting the larger antenna back wouldn't make any difference to me then.

edit: seems you're right, the stubby isn't really a priority antenna... FM is a diversity antenna also in the rear bumper.

Since stubby my FM is fine but my AM is pretty poor especially in city centres... I kind of figured it's a win win situation though as my Zed looks uber cool AND I can't hear half the drivvel that Adrian Durham spouts on Talksport! :P

What is the wing aerial for then. The dealer told me it was for better reception if you connect your mobile phone.

I don't have Dab , do I ? Listen to fm all the time ! Might try a other one as they do look better ! :x

Yes I have poo signal on mine but it looks better than the whips so leaving it on!

I listen to my iPod through my itrip which is ok but the normal radio signal is crap.

I use the whip when I'm at home in rural France, however, when I make my periodic visits to the UK, I swop it for a stubby - less tempting for some ****hole* to vent his/her atristic tendencies! Can't say that I really notice al lot of difference, but I don't use the radio all that much.
Scorp.

Does the whip or stubby have any affect on the BMW Assist / online stuff - as I'm finding that I'm regularly having problems with them not being able to connect or find signal. Currently with stubby but wondering if I need to stick the original whip back on?

Well now the car looks like a big RC car.

I'm all for the WHIP (coming from my old car which had an aerial delete.
