Stubby drama

OK, my Mangowalk arrived. Simples me thinks. Oh no. The old one wouldn't unscrew. WD40 methinks. Waits a bit. Nope. Mole grips. Nope. Harder. Ah, its moving now. Bugger it turned and snapped the mounting screw. Only a smidge protruding so can't grab it and turn it. Time to Superglue the stubby in place...

I can change an engine, but this was beyond me

Too late guys - I had removed it as described in the first post. I have just checked the radio works on FM and glued the stubby on. If needed, I can remove the whole thing in future as Dreamer suggests.

Ooh - thats unlucky!

On a separate note - any pics of your car? I'm going to look at a Toledo Blue X5 tomorrow, and not sure what the colour is like.

I can do one better - look here: http://www.x5drivers.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=4312

Doh - forgot to search on there (had searched on xoutpost, but got a couple of differing shades!).

Looks good to me. Fingers crossed then.

Here's a tip for everyone putting a stubby on: Coppaslip.

no good if you can't get the previous one off in one piece

Hence, we should all learn by the original aerial "screwer on-ers" mistake in not applying a touch of the coppa wonder on installation.

Could you not have got the snapped bit out either using an easy-out drill bit or by leaving some WD40 soak in and hacksawing a groove into it, then using a screwdriver?

There wasn't enough left and it wasn't worth the hassle. New stubby now superglued on top. I never ever use AM radio.

Toledo Blue is nice - shiney and sparkly in the sunlight. Glad you got pics.
