Strut Tower Brace - Z4 M Roadster

Hi,

I had a bit of a search but was seeking some advice on whether its best to refit the BMW strut brace I took off my 3.0 on the ///M. I thought it stiffened up the 3.0 but made the front end a bit more prone to skip on bumps and understeer as a result - the M seems to drive and steer a lot better as standard so I don't want to spend the time and effort making the car worse

Any advice and experiences would be appreciated :D

Cheers

I was going to agree with you Wondermike, just watching the cricket final so thought I'd check on RealOEM...

Part 51710305114 (Strut brace) was found on the following vehicles:
E85 Z4 2.5i Roadster, M54 (BT33) : Strut brace
E85 Z4 3.0i Roadster, M54 (BT53) : Strut brace
E85 Z4 M3.2 Roadster, S54 (BT93) : Strut brace
E86 Z4 M3.2 Coupe, S54 (DU93) : Strut brace

So you're good to go Adam D, feedback that I have seen from M drivers seems to be positive. Was the 3.0 on run flats? Have seen an improvement on my 2.5. I did get the geo done on mine after fitting though.

Would you be tempted to sell to me if it doesn't fit? :)

billygilly, it does fit, at first I thought it wouldn't fit, not because of the width but because of the engine.

Beedub's doesn't seem to have the arrow shape to it

That's because, unless the picture's very deceiving, he's fitted it back to front, but it is the OEM one...
"Fit cross strut A on the dome strut plates with the bend facing towards the rear."
Retrofit kit - Dome strut BMW Z4 (E85)

another note the strut top positions with the thicker section facing forward , i believe its fitted rear ward on NON M models to clear the oil caps.

am sure mine points forward, but why the different parts between M coupe and rag top??

mine points forward on the ///M it wont clear the bonnet bracing point rearward...... my instructions fair for the ///M fit with the bend pointing forward ;-)

pawn for the e46 its towards the rear but for the E85 its towards the front - all the info is in your link!!!

Am sure all Z4s are the same as the instruction I've attached.

The strut brace is only for the E85 pre-facelift cars and the M, officially. It will fit the N52 (facelift non-M), but the brace goes over the oil filler cap, why it's not listed in the compatible models for this part...

PawnSacrifice, what he's meaning is the first few pages on your link are for the E46 (bend backwards) the E85 instructions are bend forwards.

Ah  you're quite right... sorry for the confusion, apologies Beedub... slightly out of breath after running down to the garage, despite my ramblings mine points forward. Phew.

All that caused by me! opps

Pawn - follow your own dome link to the BMW instructions and there is a page/section for each model of car, some it points forwards, others backwards.

VvrooomM, yeah, Mike put me straight a few posts ago ( ). For some reason I read the wrong bit - although thankfully mine brace is on the right way round. The Zs are all the same though and I know they have been put on facing backwards.
