Strut rubber cracked

More to the point do you recovery that’ll get you home if it fails in the middle of a France? 🤣

One thing I’m definitely buying is a spring compressing machine. I can get a Vevor one for under £85 delivered. It’s the springs that worry me the most.

Do you think I can risk driving it for another 500 miles? I have the Le Mans Classic beginning of July.

Thanks again, lads.

I had a local shop do the spring compressing for me you might want to consider that. I think the Z4 springs are shorter, such that compressing them is "less easy" than it is on other cars -- I just didn't want to run the risk given the potential for harm.

Regarding doing a drive with the existing split, personally I wouldn't take the chance given how bad the tear is on your upper mount. Mine struts were shot but the mounts themselves weren't in horrible condition.

I often mentally invoke the "spouse acceptance factor" (even if I'm doing something solo) and think "Well, would I do this if my Siginifcant-Other was with me?" Sometimes that helps put things in perspective. Then again if there's no SO in the picture I definitely let the dishes pile up in the sink and then run the dishwasher! :P

I had the exact same crack on my top mount, albeit the crack not making an almost full circle (which is quite dangerous). If you're going to tackle that job, might as well do a full suspension refresh since you're already doing the labour.

I just ordered all my parts from Autodoc, BMW dealership and onlineBMWparts.nl, 810 Euros in total for all the parts for all 4 corners of the car, including mounts and new rubbers.

Went for Bilstein B4's dampers with Eibach pro springs as most say the comfort and looks are balanced well. Shouldn't be any rubbing since i also got some spacers already for all 4 wheels.

If you're looking for B4's, i can already save you the trouble with this

There's a lot listed, just see which one is for E85 and 2.0. Front and left have unique part numbers. Rear is a single part number as you just order that twice (if you plan to do the rears too)

Thanks for the info much appreciated

If you want B6 (a bit firmer than the m sport shocks but almost equivalent) then you can change the filter. Just take note of the Bilstein part numbers and search autodoc. They're quite expensive from the Bilstein website itself. Used realoem and excel to list out and budget all the parts that I need to acquire. Can take quite some time to research if this is your first time

Yes, I’ve ordered some B4s for a pair of front mounts with top mounts and gaitors. I’ll also get some B4s for the rear. I have the M sports suspension, but I’m led to believe that the springs dictate the shock.
Thanks again really apreciate the help
