Those that have them fitted, what improvements does it make? Any cons? Any make to stay clear of?
 
Not really noticed any difference. I added for a bit of bling.

I have one on mine but as it was there when I bought it I cannot do a before and after.

No downsides other than a few extra nuts to undo to get to some bits in the engine bay.
 
i just got one this Monday.

little sharper steering responce, & less tramlining. feel like the front end of the car stays better in direction
 
I agree with this as when I put my Weitech brace on there was a clear apparent improvement as described above. Furthermore, the 3.2M version in aluminium actually goes around the filler cap on an N52.
 
Ok try not to laugh too much but i have a question as mechanics isnt really my thing. I assume that when you undo all the bolts at the top of the suspension mount the weight of the car holds it altogether and nothing drops off? :tumbleweed:

Correct - no need to worry. Weight holds it together and there's a pin that keep the geometry aligned, but of course don't jack it up like that or move the car ...
 
Thanks CJ think i will invest in one in the very near future then any idea what torque settings would be when its tightened back up?

Can't recall and not rear to the manual to check, but they are very sensitive and easily sheared so hold on for someone to post.

Won't show you my brace as it may cause strut envy and they are no longer made :(
 
I found some interesting info when researching genuine BMW braces a while ago, I was also intrigued as to why insurance companies treat braces as a notifiable modification, seems that a brace can transfer impact forces from one side of the car to the other increasing potential damage in a smash. The genuine BMW braces are apparently designed to deform/break off in a smash reducing the problem and allowing the deform-able 'safety cell' to work as it should - obvious when you think about it :slaphead:
