Strut brace - inform insurers?

Just renewing my insurance on the Zed and as well as upping the mileage allowance I'm going to mention the strut brace I've fitted

Anyone know if it's likely to add to my insurance costs?

:driving:

Depends on who the insurer is. I had Churchill previously and they told me they would cancel the insurance if I fitted a brace.

Hopefully you will be connected to someone who knows what it is and sense will prevail.
Suspect it's 'I'll call you back' (when I've spoken with someone who knows what it is)

To avoid giving them any 'excuses', you should really inform them as soon as it's fitted - mine just incurred an admin fee from Admiral

mine went up... as it transfers damage to the other side, lol!! crappy argument but is true sadly!

Well I'm sorted now - after cancelling the policy I went on to find that some companies won't insure :( and others also load the policy (about £30) if a strut brace is fitted. (There was very little knowledge of what a strut brace is :headbang: and lots of being put on hold whilst brokers were contacted. Couldn't get past it being a modification to suspension - fair enough).

So I returned to Esure (cheapest last year and this year) to be asked the same questions about the strut brace but this time no loading :? - I questioned this specifically as an hour before it had been £30 and they said it's because they thought I was using the Zed for racing (I mentioned the Z4 Forum  ) - so now no extra cost it's just noted on my insurance notes. Of course the policy went up with the increased mileage but I expected that.

Having had a BMW strutbrace on my 3.0i and mainly insured with Admiral for years, it was listed on my policy, along with (eibach) 10mm lowered suspension and non-runflat tyres.....didn't cost me anymore than my original quote w/out....so true though, you just need to get someone who knows what they are/and a lot don't, lol; and be honest.
Glad u got it added for nought. :D

be fair, Bing, if you don't do any running, you're not going to have any running costs....

Admiral wouldn't insure me if I fitted a strut brace. They also restore damaged cars to stock specification if any modifications are damaged (so scratch your aeroskirt and Admiral will replace it with a standard sideskirt even though they've charged you more for having the aeroskirt fitted :headbang: ) so I'm now with a specialist company that cover all my mods (replacing like for like) and will allow me to fit a SC without increasing my premium
And they gave me by far the cheapest quote too...

I don't understand that different forum members, insured with Admiral, get different stories about the insurance part.

Don't hold out on us :D What company?

I'll definitely give them a ring next year (or even this year as I have 28 days to cancel!
