Well done. Did you work it out from using an OBD code reader ?

I gave the car to a bmw mechanic and he sorted it out. He will have used a code reader to identify the problem. I was way off thinking it was the starter motor. All lights are now off, all back to normal.

To be fair though, you were guided in the direction of the starter motor by me and others too, so glad you didn't fork out for one unnecessarily.

I used a RTX starter on my 2.5 Z4 when mine died, it did come back with a good clout with a hammer but completley died after a few test starts. No advance warning of it failing, just dead one day.
