Striking Locations for Car Photos

Hi guys,

As a proud owner of a Zed and also a photographer, I'm trying to find some good locations to use as a backdrop for some arty car photos, kind of Top Gear style. Ideally I'm looking for anywhere that might have abandoned mills / factories, or other decaying places that you can drive up to and not have railings obstructing the view :D . Anyone got any favourite spots?

Well I got married at Ealing Town Hall once, and the backdrop had an Iceland in the pics, which was quite stunning. If you angle it right, you could have had the Pizza Hut too!

But seriously...Kent is the place to go - Englands Garden.....think there is a place called Panshurst - went to a do at a Palace/castle of sorts - Panshurst Palace or something like that....

Guess it depends where you are and how far you plan on travelling. Lots of professional shoots are done at Dungeness on Romney Marsh. There are roads nearby where a lot of motorbike photography has been done too. I've seen some great shots in multi storey car parks on the forum and i guess it's a case of finding a time of day when there are few people around.
A number of National Trust and English Heritage sites around Kent and sussex if you want a building backdrop. Think nickm was referring to Penshurst Place http://www.penshurstplace.com/
However nice the setting it's gonna be about lighting, composition etc.
There i sound like i know what i'm talking about and trust me i don't, but i like voting for the monthly photo comp :)

Cheers guys. Yes I should of said, I live in Manchester, so ideally anywhere within 50 miles or so, but if it's worth a good drive with the roof down on a sunny day I'm up for anywhere. Here's hoping for a good summer! 8)

cripes, there must be loads of "dark satanic mills" within a 50mile radius of Manchester. Grimy, sooty, industrial grit as a backdrop does it for me.

Or, there must be some streets with railway arches with garages and other industrial uses, they always look good as a backdrop.
