Streaming From iPhone

Hi Guys

Just purchased a 2010 30i with SatNav and basic bluetooth connectivity (think BMW changed this on younger versions). Whilst this is great and makes life easier for taking calls I miss the ability to stream my music via bluetooth. Apart from using the AUX and/or USB stick / Internal HD is there anything else I can use to stream music from my iPhone whilst still using the factory bluetooth already provided by BMW for handsfree ?

Basically I'm trying to replicate what I have in my X1. Any help would be appreciated :)

Hi Steve

I think it may come down to whether you have a Combox installed. I am sure there will be many more comments

In my 2015, I have a combox and had Enhanced Bluetooth enabled last week locally which gave me iphone streaming, prior to that I used a USB Cable.

I started off my search here
https://www.bimmer-tech.net/product...b-port-activation-enhbtusbactivcable-e-series

There is a place to enter your VIN, they will indicate if Enhanced is possible based on Factory config.

Hi Eric

Thanks for that - just checked and its not compatible with mine :( - Can get a PNP and have it shipped and remotely configured for $898 for Bimmertech.

If I purchased one from ebay (second hand) would anyone know how to code it so it would work?

Hi Steve

I have no idea, I believe its a complicated process....There seems to be a lot more knowledge of coding in the UK than here in Ireland so anything is possible. I recollect that many of the guys on the forum have used the little Bluetooth adapters from Amazon etc to stream music. Tune2Air comes to mind.

I expect more knowledgeable folk will be along to help out later.

You could use something like the Bovee or Viseo Tune2air, this attaches to the USB and AUX and you connect the phone to the tune2air via bluetooth and this will stream your music to the car and from what I understand you can use the steering / idrive controls to control the music on your phone. I used a cheaper bluetooth unit that also plugs into the AUX and USB and it worked well except you can't use the idrive or steering control (apart from volume) you have to change tracks etc from the phone but I just used Siri or my Apple Watch for that. Just be careful with these cheap units not to use their cheap 3.5mm jack to jack cable, get yourself a good quality one otherwise the tip of the jack might come inside the aux socket of the car as has happened to me! I have also recently come across this:

https://www.amazon.es/gp/product/B00KON1JIA/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?smid=A25RIZWJWT7K69&psc=1

All of the above will be a lot simpler and cheaper then trying to retrofit the Combox.

I can stream from my iphone in both my Z4 and 220 but I find the audio quality is better using the lightning cable so that’s what I do. You might find after a lot of faffing it’s not been worth the bother :scratchhead:

I have an 09 35i with the same setup. No usb in the centre console, just a 3.5mm aux.
I fitted a Pure Highway 400. This gives me DAB as well as Bluetooth streaming. Most of the time I just use the DAB on the daily commute but do use the streaming for longer trips.

Doesn't your car have DAB as standard equipment? I thought it was standard on all E89 Z4s.

Hi Guys

Thanks for all your help. I'll take a look at the Pure Highway 400 as the DAB feature is something else I would like.

Once again many thanks :)

Taken the plunge and ordered a ViseeO Tune2Air off Amazon. Looks like it will do everything I want so fingers crossed :D :D :D
