Strange Z4M crash...

That said, I’d be in the ‘shitting myself, too late !’ category of drivers so I can’t judge

But I just don’t understand why he got understeer on that bend? The line into the bend wasn’t far off the racing line...
Right line, wrong entry speed, and then got his steering inputs way too late once he was in the gravel.
Yup, the gravel was the killer here - should have kept it straight + lost more speed, as u can see moment the turned front left wheel has caught a gravel rut & turns rear into pendulum...

in a spin, both feet in. the second he's in the gravel, dip the clutch, hard on the brake.

Utter tosh - he wasn't spinning - jamming the clutch and brake on would just initiate a spin 😅

I'd rather park in the gravel, then crash at speed headfirst into the Armco. In that situation I'm going to let the gravel do what its designed to do, and slow a car down safety before it hits the barrier. If it was tarmac run off I might do things differently, but clearly he'd lost control of the car - in that case I'd be scrubbing off speed as quickly as possible.

its these kind of videos that seriously make me worry about taking my own z4 on the nurburgring... but there are plenty of people who do successfully complete laps, right?!?
I’m at over 500 laps so far :driving:

I'm 25 years visiting (missed 2) and also well over 500 laps. A very few close moments but no bumps or offs.

that's what I like to hear! I'm only planning on driving it at moderate pace to say I've done it... I have no idea where it goes!

Just do it man, this crash was because of driver error (which can easily be avoided).

It’s the crashes which occur due to factors out of your control that are the real bummers.

If you’re really worried insuremytrackday.com can provide cover for your own car and the Armco at touristfahrten.

I went in May after the NBR24h race, feel free to check my trip here: https://youtu.be/y0ymv8jOC0Y

Likewise, I did it early on in the year, in my mind it was a must do. I said I'd only do 1 lap but couldn't resist a 2nd :D
Try cadge onto someone who does know where it was going as I luckily managed :)

Re: that crash you'd have to say that was ambitious driving for someone who judging by the corner before where you can see his exit didn't really know where the track was going either :(

Enjoyed the video  Roadtrips are just the best!

The castle is very spectacular, went last year, albeit by motorbike. Sadly there was quite a lot of scaffolding in place then.

Thanks man.

Dunno how you did that trip via bike. Must’ve had a sore bottom afterwards!

See Tom, see, someone else who like the castle. ;)

Ouch, that must be so utterly gutting. Does the track insurance pay out the costs to repair the barriers at the rig as well? What would have been his exposure on a smash like that?

Also, cue the 'parts for sale' threads that will no doubt appear next week.

So would I given the cost of the stuff!

I think his feet froze up. When I was young I lost control of a go kart, in a panic I ended up flooring the accelerator into a tyre wall :D. When it’s your pride and joy at stake the feeling of sliding almost certainly into the barrier must be something else.

actually I remember doing exactly the same thing.. must have been about 10-11 on a PGL holiday, doing some karting and lost control and went into the barriers, when they came to retrieve me I still had my right foot welded to the go pedal.

He entered the bend full chat as if he had no clue the gravel trap was there  either little experience of the track or car ( at track speeds )
Looked a complete novice ( amongst other things  )
