Strange window behavior

Heya folks.

Sometimes when I put the power top up, the windows crack open, the top goes up, the windows roll back up... and THEN the driver side window rolls back down. It's no big deal, but if it does it when I use the door key to put the top up, I then have to get back in to roll the window up. Very irritating. Sometimes it does it and sometimes it doesn't, and I'll be darned if I can figure out a pattern.

Anybody else have this happen? Any ideas what to do about it? (By itself, it's not really worth the hassle of a trip to the shop).

you get out before you put the top up? Didn't realize you could use the key in the door to do that.......i use the fob or the console button. Just way too many ways to do it for me.

I think maybe once it happened to me but as I say I never use the key in the door to close it.

I think the windows sense if something is in the way of closing, say a childs finger or something, and immeadiately opens half way. I had this occasionally to start with it might be the window contacting a new seal and retracting. With use and settling down it might sort itself out. Mine did; I think so anyway!

Hey i tried using the key in the door for the top this weekend....it works.

hope you got your window situation straightened out bluesie.

Hey Ro, what's the deal with the key?? My model ( pre April '04) was manufactured before the auto-top control on the key feature. Does your comment/experience mean I can bring the top down or up by using the "key in the door" trick?? How do I test this?

Walk up to the car with the top up. Turn the key to the unlock position to unlock the doors, return the key to the vertical, then turn it back to unlock and hold it there until the top goes down.

Works going up too, only you turn the key to the lock position. I believe if you continue to hold it, the windows will go all the way back up when you're putting the top down or up. Can't remember for sure though.

Thanks Yal...I'll give it a try :)

I looked at this topic and thought "Wow! At last - someone else is having strange window behaviour!"

But then I realised that your windows aren't staying out late at night, going to dance clubs, taking Ice and coming home at dawn and then sleeping all day. Then they get all cranky at me.

I guess there is strange and then there is strange.

Ya stick the key in the door and turn, I think it is right. I never use the key in the door, so didn't know this. It sounds stupid, but I always just push the fob to lock and unlock, never ever have i put the key in the lock. I believe my car was July '04 manuf.

My windows act stupid 1/2 the time. Sometimes they will go up but hit and go right back down, either all the way of half way. Sometimes they will not partial drop when the door is opened or closed, makes it tough to shut the door. Have to hold the button all the way down for 5 to 10 seconds to reset their memory. Happens more often than it should with an expensive car.

LOL...I don't think my keys have ever seen the inside of the door locks. Ro, if your Z was July '04 you should be able to use the "auto-top control" from your key. Not sure how it works since I don't have it but I'm sure someone here can explain it.

Socal,

Thats what i do.....no explanation needed for THIS blonde. It is just holding down the unlock button for a while and eventually, most of the time, the top goes down, or partially goes down.

See my comment "Didn't realize you could use the key in the door to do that.......i use the fob or the console button. "

I've only put the key in the lock to lower the top a few times. Those are usually the times when I don't feel like being limber and sliding into the seat. Sometimes its just fun to plop down in the seat. Or pull a dukes of hazzard slide across the hood and then jump over the door into the seat YEEEHAAAAW

Heya, Alterego. My windows definitely do go out to bars and stay out late and such, but that's just because I bring them along. :P

You know... that might be the key to my problem. I've been wondering if it had some relation to my maybe rolling the window partially in the past, and the car remembered that as the preferred position. They are behaving themselves right now, but the next time it starts happening, I'll try this "reset" trick. Thanks, bro!

It's a pretty handy feature if you happen to get out of the car, and then decide to put the top up to go into lockdown or whatever. It's also nice when just showing the car to a buddy outside a bar or something (It looks much nicer with the top down) and then go back inside. No need to get in.
