Strange whizzing sound question.

Hi all,

I’ve noticed when going for spirited drives and revs up near the redline the car makes a sort of high pitched whizzing zinging type sound.

Has anyone else noticed this before, is this normal?, the cars running like a dream, don’t get me ring the sound isn’t overly loud and you have to listen hard to hear it.

Z4 is a 3.0i.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Believe I've read about this before and it's a bit of whine from the input shaft on the gearbox, but nothing to worry about from what I'm aware. Seems to be reasonably common with the ZF 6 Speed box.

I may be wrong, so don't take this as a guarantee!

That’s interesting, thanks very much for the info, do you know if there is anyway to minimise the sound if it is the ZF 6 speed ?
