Strange Ticking Noise

Had my 2.0i Z for three years now with no problems, other than replacing a window regulator and a cracked plastic thermostat housing, just recently after driving my car I've noticed when I switch the car off I can hear a feint ticking noise that lasts for a couple of minutes then stops.
All electrics work fine on the car, any help identifying what it is would be great.

I always hear ticking after a long drive but I put this down to either brake discs cooling or engine components transferring thermal energy through the block when cooling down etc.

Maybe a previous owner installed a spirax valve?
