Strange Sound

Hi, some mornings when i start my car up, i hear a strong mechanical grind noise when the ignition is switched on.

Does anyone know what this sound could be. My car is due a service in 1800km

Almost certainly the starter motor taking a moment to disengage. I had mine replaced under warranty although I believe it can often be sorted with some lubrication. I expect its most notable when starting from cold in the morning?

is it first stage ignition?

Like before you start the engine and you just get the dash light on?

Does this only happen on cold mornings?

I concur with the starter motor diagnosis but it's impossible to be sure without hearing it.

Hi, thanks for all of the replies... yes it is only on cold mornings and it is only when the ignition turns the actual engine on

I might have misunderstood, if its not when you actually start the engine, do you have xenons?
