Strange roof behaviour???

Hi all,

Picked up an 04 3.0i SE today and loving driving it but wondering if the roof should do what it is currently doing...

Opening and closing using the buttons inside the car works fine, however, when putting the roof up, the windows do not close. Is that correct?

Also when using the key to drop the roof, the windows lower but then the interior roof button flashes red and nothing else happens?

Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks

Either you are not holding the button long enough or the windows need resetting.

Using the key is a real PITA unless you have a Reinhold or gaptech module as the slightest lift off the button stops the operation.

So why hasn't mine fixed itself then! lol. Still bugging me!

Glad you got this sorted though Schweppy.

Hah. it did it again today. Roof up and down fine but windows don't go back up when you put the roof up.

Right, how exactly do you mean mate? Won't go up at all? Or won't go up whilst holding the roof button? And on key or in the car?

In the car it should be a case of hold roof button, keep holding after roof has closed and windows will rise.

If it's the key, and it's BMW coded (hold the button down) this is notoriously rubbish and I'd invest in a gaptech (do a quick search and you'll see).

Thanks dude. I realise the key thing is rubbish as it keeps stopping if I slightly move whilst holding the key button.

When inside the car tho, holding the button for the roof to go up, the roof locks into place but the windows don't go back up.

Are you keeping it held? That really is a strange one. You've reset the windows and this didn't cure things?

Once you've fixed the issue, 100% install a gaptech, three clicks roof down, two open, one close, roof up.

As the others have said are you holding it long enough?

I too thought it was broken but after some research on here you need to keep the close button pressed for what seems like another 5-10 seconds after the roof has latched and secured.

Seems like ages...quicker to release when the hood is locked and use the window buttons.

i'm saving....slowly for a GAP tech !! :)

Agree with the thought that you'll not holding the button down - I think the light stays on until the whole process is complete.
