Strange OEM stereo?

Saw this pic on a 2003 E85 on Ebay the other day and didn’t recognise the stereo at all. Was this standard on early cars???

I'm guessing the old fashioned point by point satnav, think it was called business nav instead of the professional satnav
definitely an oem option though

It’s the business nav version. Small arrows give direction instead of having pop up screen.

I expect it's still got the dvd drive for the satnav in the centre cubby - just like the pro version with flip up screen does (completely separate from the CD changer.

I have a 2004, so a pretty early car with a changer (how old fashioned is that now?!) and have never seen anything as atrocious as that

Yeah, maybe.
Comment was more that I suspect it's a separate unit in the centre cubby rather that putting a disc (of whatever format) in the head unit.

Really? Surely everyone that specified nav post facelift got the relatively space-age pop up screen on top of the dash?

Really? Surely everyone that specified nav post facelift got the relatively space-age pop up screen on top of the dash?

I have a sept 2008 price list and there it's still listed. Also as option for a z4m.
It was about 1000 pound cheaper than the navi prof screen and works just like the navi prof with the mk4 navi computer in the center cubby above the cd changer (for those who wonder where it's dvd rom goes (of their own for that matter )).
This unit was also an option in the x3 and it's in essence internally an e46 unit (only the e46 one always came with a cassette), just like the navi prof is internally an e46 unit (dating back to around 2000 I guess....)

There's a DVD drive for the sat nav in the central cubby, above the CD changer. Both now somewhat redundant but too much of a pain to remove
