Strange noise?

Got to work this morning, stopped and could hear a strange noise like the exhaust blowing or part touching car.
My business partner arrived at the same time, she as same car as mine, walked across and asked what the problem was and commented she could hear the noise.
I jumped out with the engine running, it was coming from the engine area.
Lifted bonnet and listened. Usual click, click from the injectors plus a muffled popping noise.
I unscrewed the oil filler cap and noise increased.
In fact the sound was the blow back gasses.
I did the same with her car and similar but much quieter sound could be heard.
Later I listened to my car cold and the level of noise had dropped to match her car.
Now still normal, strange?

The only thing I noticed this morning is that the car seemed to go like stink when I put my foot down.
Did fault code check, nothing.

Your describing almost anything. Just monitor it, it's likely normal and due to your driving, weather, etc

You have narrowed it down to the engine and probably its ventilation system
If you think its blow back gases I would be looking at the PCV system. Which engine do you have? as some BMW engines are known to have issues with this.

You just can't beat experience!

Well it's not nothing, it was something, just not re-occurred......yet.

From my experience mechanical things tend to give you plenty of warning something is going wrong.
