strange noise on start up

hey wondering if any of you lovley people can help me. I have noticed in the past week or so that when I start the z4 it starts perfect but as soon as it starts it makes a noise which I can only describe as a cracking sound from under the bonnet. this lasts on 2 seconds and is gone but happens everytime the car is started
any ideas?
 
It could be your starter motor sticking a little.

With a hammer a sticky thing and a bicep! No don't do that!!

Removal and cleaning re greasing and replacing any worn parts. But that's a lot of work so until it becomes a bigger problem I personally would live with it. Then replace the worn part :thumbsup:
 
Yes as MM said Mel :D

Older VWs seem to be notorious for this, have a listen to a mk4 golf start at a petrol station some time - loads of them seem to do it.
