Strange noise from wheel

can be.. I replaced clutch and dual-mass flywheel for around £600....

but check your droplinks and everything else first.. they cost about a 10% of the price of a clutch ;)

If it is that should I feel anything when I drive. Noticed today that my steering felt a bit less responsive than normal? Could it be linked ?

maybe.. but that could also just be the placebo effect.

It'll take you less than 2 minutes to check............ :poke:

(and if you don't know what I'm talking about, in the pic I posted earlier with the brake disc, the droplink is also visible. It's the vertical silverish rod to the right of the main shock absorber in the pic - the green tube crosses in front of it. cant miss it ;) )

I've booked it in for a shaker plate test . Checked everything and can't find a problem. Hopefully this might be able to locate the problem ( if it has one). Beginning to think that I'm possible being a bit OCD with it all.

Ok. Things I know it's not

Droplinks
Coils
Anything visible from underneath

Shaker plate failed to show problem. I've noticed the noise is more like a knock than a Cushing sound
Which is only present on a bumpy bit of road

Any ideas

engine / gearbox mounts
Front exhaust mount
Suspension Top mounts

those would be the next three things on my list :/

Would all the things listed only sound when the car goes over bumps?

not necessarily,

but they would all make metal to metal knocking noises when you did go over a bump if they were worn / broken / etc

Noticed it when it hit a pot hole at speed. No noise when on smooth road

I know. Everything I listed could make a sound when hitting a pothole, but not likely to make on driving on smooth road.

Have I read somewhere on the Forum about the noise from bonnet hinges when going over bumps - can't remember if it was this forum or somewhere else I read it.

Just a thought. . . if you're finding everything else in order.

Control arm bushings/ball joints..... There are some good DIY's on YouTube. they also show why you get a knocking sound from this issue. Your passenger side control arm ball joints/ bushing issue may only be noticeable when it's stressed by potholes/rough road and not when on a lift being inspected. In any case replacing both sides is something you can do if you have fair mechanical skills. The CAB's should be replaced in pairs... I replaced my control arms at the same time, pre installing the CAB's on the control arms. If I was going through all the effort to change the CAB's I might as well to the control arms as well.....

I have it booked in next week to get everything checked. I've noticed the stearing is sometimes a little light . Would this suggest the knocking noise is to do with the bush?
