hey guys, ive noticed since ive had the zed that there are two small areas on the bonnet which when the car is clean or you look frm a certain angle seem to be stains. haveing put this into google its come up with clear coat failure . is this even possible for a 5 year old car ? how much would a bonnet respray be ?

Where are these 'stains'

If you were following the E85 sex thread, you might want to line up some if the positions just in case ...

A lot! Bonnets on these things are the worst panel to respray, its such a massive area to try and get a smooth layer of paint on. Can you try not to look at it from certain angles?

Might not be clear coat failure. It could be industrial fallout or some other type of contamination that has bonded to the paintwork. Do you have a photo of the marks? Might be worth using a product like Tardis, claying it and then going over it with a machine polisher if you've got one.

Sounds like bird muck has turned the clear coat layer opaque. Could be sorted with a detail - have done this myself before, with some 2000 grit wet & dry, then progressively less abrasive compounds and a DA.

Thank you for your comments apart from the first one. Looks like bird lime , someone didn't look after him before me did they! Have just purchased some ultimate compound which will hopefully restore the shine 8)

I think the bonnet is more sensitive to paint problems than any other body panel. If you leave layers of dirt on it or any gunk builds up .... the fact that the bonnet gets hot when you drive the car may bake the gunk into the bonnet. So it may be good advice to clean it regularly.
