Ok so the cold arrives and I notice that when you crank the engine everyso often there is a buzzing noise from the starter motor like its overrunning, my indy says they sometimes suffer from lack of lube issue, anyone ever had the same issue? Z4 3.0i 2003 model.

Common problem - I cannot remember the specifics, but try a search using -

Cold; start; noise

Mine in the last three years when below -0 seems to sound as if it is frozen, is this the same 3 sec at the most. three years on still goes like s--t.or is it telling me i'm in for a ride

I had the same on my 2.5 when it went cold, Took the starter motor off, lubed it all up- shaft, gears, sliding the gear forward and lubing the spindle underneath, checked the gears were undamaged on it, put it all back together and absolutely no difference whatsoever, Apparently tolerances are too close and become a problem in cold weather. Oil wont sort out a lack of clearance.

just have to try and judge it better on releasing the key quicker, that did it for me (most of the time).

id have to agree with gookah, mine has been doing this since iv bought it and iv found releasing the key as quick as possible seems to help.
