Strange but true!

I returned from a wee European trip today (7 cracking days)

Then...............

The Force 9 gale from Zeebrugge to Hull was interesting to say the least

2hrs trying to dock was fustrating..............

My trip back home to Dundee, should have taken 5hrs max, it did'nt

The A1 was closed before Newcastle, the A68 shut for a fair bit too, I should have crossed over earlier, I did'nt :|

Whilst sitting stationary in heavy traffic, I was rear ended :o

Fair old whallop, bumper and boot fecked :x

It was an accident, they happen, the other driver (company van man) admitted it was his fault, which I captured on full HD, the insurance companys are doing battle as I write

Trouble is, after driving away from the accident, I noticed my steering was sticky/Notchy? I'd just done a thousand trouble free miles, no issues with the steering whatsoever

I aint no mechanic, but the drive home was'nt goood, I have read the sticky steering threads, and thats what I have now

Could a rear end joult, do somthing to the steering to induce this very strange feeling

I hasten to add, I never hit anything in front of me as a result of the prang

Any thoughts please

What a s**t day you have had! Steering could be to do with geometry of the wheels being knocked out is my guess.

Hope you get sorted soon :headbang:

What a crap day!

I doubt a shunt would cause sticky steering. It does make me wonder if its dislodged something and you may have stumbled onto a cause by accident

Hope it all sorts itself out. You have video and an admission. Pita though

As your going through the insurance get the garage to take a look, they can prob stick it all under one quote.

Might be the rear wheel alignment as said above.

Least it didnt happen at the start or during the hols.

Oh really bad day, hope getting it sorted is infinitely easier

It seems that most with sticky steering experience it when there is a lot of heat within the cabin i.e. if the car is parked in the sun all day.

I'm not sure on that, Mowflow, I've seen some superficial evidence to suggest that, but mine wasn't related to cabin heat, but rather seemed to point towards engine heat/usage - it initially only materialised after driving for about 2 hours, but gradually got worse until it appeared after about 30 minutes. Greasing the joint did work for a while, but eventually it was only solved by a warranty repair (around £2000) replacing the steering column.

Scottish Clarky, sorry to hear about the accident, real pita to end a cr@ppy day  Can't see it causing the sticky steering issue though, but as there are many triggers to it, would not discount it

The only possible relationship I can imagine is the battery dropped some plates or something on impact, affecting output and thus confusing the steering controller. A stretch, but is somewhat plausible.
