Strange behaviour from dash illumination dimmer.

With the lights on, if I dim the dash illumination dial (with side lights on) the radio display will dim and then go back bright. I've tried spooling the dial a few times and sometimes it does stay dim. However tonight with the headlights on and driving in the dark it all behaved as it should. Is there a common fault that I should address or has anyone else noticed this phenomenon.

Could also be a battery or alternator issue as these can cause random and strange electric issues when they are on the way out. if you have a multi meter its probably worth checking it out or going to a local motor factors as they can usually check this for you for free.

Funny enough I've had an issue where as the clock on the dash goes dim (really dim) when the lights are on it will do that and then correct it self, if I moved the dimmer up and down and everything dimmed but the clock and the mileage counter..!

But since then everything is back to normal

It should be auto dimming, sometimes it can throw a wobbler, if you cover the sensor above the headlight switch you'll see what I mean, nothing to worry about tho.

I'll have a nose at that one, cheers for the info :)

Genius, ambient light sensor. How could I have missed it. All makes sense now with my fat fingers adjusting the dimmer (and covering the light sensor).
