Strange? - anyone else

Hi,

I noticed a few days ago that the frong tow-eye cover had gone missing from my car. (E89 with Msport bumper). Initially I just thought 'unlucky' it must have been hit by a stone. popped out etc.

However, Now I have a new one, I can see that this is pretty unlikely (and it's never happened to me before over 100s of 1000s of mileage.

I'm now concerned that perhaps my car was targeted (in Birmingham) to be towed/lifted/stolen, but the thieves were either distrubed or they just 'prep it and follow it'. :?

Simple question, - any other E89 owners suffered from a lost tow-eye cover? (i.e. could be a common issue due to design?)

Doubt very much a stone would dislodge it as they seem to be on the bumper pretty firmly, its probably just worked loose, and fallen off. Don't they have a retaining wire so you don't lose them?

They didn't seem to be a wire, but there are holes to do it so I've wired the replacement. To buy it and the paint cost £40 so wouldn't want to lose one regularly..

Not on the Z4, but I had the front tow-eye cover stolen from my M5 at Le Mans last year. The car was parked at Maison Blanche at the time, so no chance of it having been dislodged by a stone. There was a fairly beaten up M5, driven by a load of pikeys, in the same colour as mine (Carbon Black) parked in the same camp-site so I am fairly certain who took it. They also scraped the bumper when removing it.

As you found out, it's very easy to remove and costs a lot to replace (£15.72 for the cover and £18 to paint it in my case), so the likelihood is that some scrote took it to replace a missing one on their car.
 
Had one lifted from 3 series coupe although in my case the leasing company picked up the tab - cock-up on their part I think. Maybe they are trophies like the vw badge - has anyone on the x factor worn one on a pendant?
 
Searching eBay for "BMW Towing Cover" gave me 5 pages of results. Many of them are painted and from the same sellers. . .
