Hi Guys and Girls,

A very strange thing has just happened. I walked over and unlocked my car as normal but the alarm started going off, the car started and the alarm did not stop. i drove 100m and it went off, however came back on almost straight away.

I have read that the bonnet sensor can cause some issues, does anyone know if my symptoms sound like this could be the culprit?

Cheers all.

Sounds like it could be.

Our ///M couldnt be left for 2 seconds without it going off all the time.
Easy and fairly inexpensive fix from the stealers. Unplug original and click new one in. Job sorted.

Thanks for the advice, if it still does it when i leave the office ill unplug it and see what happends

Is it possible the battery could be on its way out?

The fact that you can drive along and it still goes off does perhaps point more towards the battery being on its way out.

You could always disconnect the bonnet sensor. If it's still going off then you know it's the battery...

I think the plastic clip thing was £15.00 all in.
Daylight robbery in one respect but at least not a bill for £150.00

Battery....what are they these days? £60.00?

Let me know how you get on.

Bonnet switch was £10 from Sopers when I got mine, they post pretty quick too.

I just picked up a Varta E44 (77AH, 780CCA) from Battery Megastore online for £68 with next day delivery: http://www.batterymegastore.co.uk/product/E44/

Sounds good, will be going out to the car in 10 minutes so will see what happens this time :)

cheers for all the advice guys

I need to try this (disconnect the bonnet sensor) when I get home, is it obvious or is there something to look out for when identifying what to disconnect?

Cheers

You can't really miss it Luke. Right in the middle of the engine bay near the windscreen at the top.

Recently replaced my bonnet sensor for the same reason. The alarm was also going off sporadically after I locked the car.

I tried disconnecting the bonnet sensor first too, and also cleaning it with switch cleaner but both made no difference.

The dealer wanted £35 for the new part but I managed to pick a new one up from Ebay. £19 delivered from America!

Its a piece of cake to replace, I can get you the part number if it helps?

I took mine out, soaked it in electrical contact cleaner... refitted, that was over a year ago.... no alarms since

Definitely worth a try first, just didn't work on mine. I didn't soak it to be fair, just sprayed it. I've still got the old one so I'll give that a go tomorrow!
